Job description

ASI Wellness Director

The ASI Wellness Director is a foundational role responsible for creating the first-ever comprehensive wellness program for Associated Students Inc., California State University, Fullerton (ASI). This position will permanently shift ASI and the university's approach to well-being by establishing a new, holistic framework. The ASI Wellness Director will create and establish brand-new wellness programs, services, and facilities and hire wellness staff to implement those programs for the students of California State University, Fullerton (CSUF). The ASI Wellness Director, under the direction of the Assistant Executive Director Wellness and Recreation, is responsible for the strategic development, implementation, and management of comprehensive ASI wellness programs designed to foster a holistic culture of well-being for the CSUF campus community, encompassing the 8 Dimensions of Wellness: physical, emotional, social, spiritual, environmental, intellectual, financial, and occupational.

The primary focus of this position is centered on addressing students' wellness needs by incorporating extensive outreach and direct engagement with students to co-create programs that are relevant and impactful. The ASI Wellness Director will collaborate with various campus departments (including the campus health, counseling centers and wellness-focused faculty), student organizations, healthcare providers, and community partners to create and promote a wide range of wellness initiatives. This position requires a dynamic and adaptive leader with a strong understanding of program development, building and leading a team, public health principles, current wellness trends, and college student development. The ASI Wellness Director will play a crucial role in creating a supportive and thriving campus environment that empowers individuals to achieve their full potential, particularly within the context of ASI's mission and goals. The Wellness Director's initial focus will be on program creation and community engagement, and collaboration on construction of a brand-new wellness facility. Facility policies, staff hiring and management, and oversight of the new facility will be necessary as planning and construction milestones are achieved.

  • Engage directly with students through surveys, focus groups, and informal conversations to understand their specific needs.
  • Design and execute targeted wellness initiatives to address the specific needs of diverse student populations, faculty, and staff, with a focus on student engagement.
  • Gather and use data from student leaders, students-at-large, employees, campus partners, and community members to create a robust wellness program for the organization.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of newly created programs, adjusting strategies as needed based on direct feedback and data.

Strategic Planning and Collaboration:

  • Develop and implement a strategic wellness plan aligned with ASI's mission and goals, and the university's overall strategic plan.
  • Collaborate with university departments (e.g., Student Health Center, Counseling and Psychological Services, and the Divisions of Academic Affairs, Human Resources & Inclusive Excellence, and Student Affairs and Strategic Enrollment Management) to integrate ASI wellness initiatives.
  • Develop partnerships with student leaders, provide guidance, information, and support for the ASI Student Wellness Initiative.
  • Work closely with student organizations to promote and support peer-led wellness initiatives.
  • Conduct regular assessments of the campus community's health and wellness needs using surveys, focus groups, and data analysis, with a focus on student feedback.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of wellness programs and adjust strategies as needed, reporting to the Assistant Executive Director Wellness and Recreation.

Education and Outreach:

  • Develop and disseminate wellness-related educational materials through various channels (e.g., website, social media, workshops, presentations), specifically promoting ASI wellness programs.
  • Organize and facilitate health screenings, workshops, seminars, and campus-wide wellness events, with a focus on student participation and engagement.
  • Promote awareness of campus wellness resources and services, particularly those provided by ASI.

  • Directly recruit, train, and supervise full-time staff employees within the wellness department to program and manage the in-development wellness center.
  • Provide indirect supervision and guidance to student assistants working within ASI wellness programs.
  • Recruit, train, and supervise volunteers and peer educators, ensuring alignment with ASI policies and the 8 Dimensions of Wellness.
  • Foster a collaborative and supportive team environment within the ASI wellness department and with campus partners.

Facility Construction and Management:

  • Collaborate with CSUF students, ASI Staff, and campus partners in the design and construction of updated ASI facilities and a brand-new wellness center.
  • When the newly constructed facility comes online (est. 2029), oversee the operational management of the ASI wellness facility, ensuring a safe, welcoming, and effective environment for students.

Data Analysis and Reporting:

  • Collect and analyze data to track wellness program outcomes and metrics, specifically for ASI programs.
  • Prepare and present reports on wellness program activities and outcomes to the Chief of Organizational Operations, the ASI Board of Directors, and other stakeholders.
