Wellness Program Manager

Salary: $65,000

Job Overview

Responsible for developing, planning, implementing and monitoring organization wide wellness programs that target the physical, emotional, social and financial components of total wellbeing to achieve a culture of health. These duties include the creation of programs that will integrate the partnerships and benefits to improve the health and well-being of county employees, retirees, and their families, using preventative means with measurable results.

Duties and Responsibilities

Note: The following duties are illustrative and not exhaustive. Depending on assigned area of responsibility, incumbents in the position may perform some or all of the activities described below.

  • Leads community outreach and seeks out community partnerships to expand wellness program offerings.
  • Monitors measures to identify the effectiveness of wellness programs as it pertains to marketing, attendance, participation, and outcomes of the programs.
  • Serves as the lead communicator in the development, management and improvement of wellness communications such as the "Wellness Wednesdays" or "COIN" webpage.
  • Works with the County's insurance carrier (CIGNA) to increase participation in lifestyle management programs to increase compliance rates for preventative health screenings.
  • Acts as the subject matter expert for the wellness functional area and provides training and mentoring to team members, wellness champions and volunteers.
  • Assists the Wellness Manager in the research and development of wellness policies, procedures and on-going changes in the laws affecting wellness programs or incentives.
  • Manages the Champions programs ensuring on-going communication and leading the facilitation of the meetings.
  • Consults with other departments/functions in the county to align efforts and reinforce a culture of wellness.
  • Generate reports, including, but not limited to, wellness program tracking and utilization.
  • Collaborates with other HR functional teams in the design and implementation of projects as a member of the HR team.
  • Conducts research of best-in-class wellness programs to maintain abreast of innovated initiatives in the industry.
  • Assists the Wellness Specialists and Wellness Assistant in facilitating wellness classes.
  • Inspects fitness and wellness facility areas for maintenance and repair, cleanliness, safety, and efficiency of operations.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Job Specifications

  • Considerable knowledge of wellness promotion and prevention practices.
  • Understanding of trends and best practices in employee health and wellbeing.
  • Considerable knowledge of Federal, State and local laws, regulations and agency policies in the creation of wellness programs or incentives affecting HIPAA, EEOC, GINA, ADA, or other laws in the human resources area.
  • General knowledge of human resources practices and understanding how one action may impact wellness initiatives and the integration with benefits.
  • Skill in making presentations to small and large groups.
  • Excellent consultative skills to shape solutions.
  • Ability to conduct research, collect, interpret and analyze data to understand workforce trends, patterns, best in class research and develop logical conclusions.
  • Ability to evaluate the effectiveness of programs and work processes.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with audiences at all levels in the organization.
  • Ability to build strong partnerships and collaborate and work effectively with others.
  • Ability to use a computer and related software.

Physical Requirements

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to handle and feel; and reach with hands and arms.
  • The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must frequently lift or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Work Category

  • Medium work - Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Minimum Qualifications Required

  • Associate degree; AND
  • At least 2 years of experience in the health and wellness field; OR
  • An equivalent combination of education (not less than a high school diploma/GED), training, and experience that would reasonably be expected to provide the job-related competencies noted above; AND
  • Possession of a valid Florida Driver's License; AND
  • Current CPR/Basic Life Support, AED, and First Aid Certification; or obtain the certification within one (1) year of employment.

Emergency Management Responsibilities

In the event of an emergency or disaster, an employee may be required to respond promptly to duties and responsibilities as assigned by the employee's department, the County's Office of Emergency Management, or County Administration. Such assignments may be for before, during or after the emergency/disaster.
