Youth Services Assistant Director

Assistant Program Director for Youth Development Centers (YDC) | Queens, NY

Status: Full-Time Salary: $21.15 $22.00 per hour Schedule: 35 hours per week, Monday Friday; some evenings and weekends as needed

Queens Community House (QCH) is looking for an Assistant Program Director who is passionate about youth development and ready to make an impact.

In this role, you'll be part of a dynamic Youth Development Center serving young people through after-school, holiday, and summer programs. You'll have the opportunity to build meaningful relationships with youth, support and coach program staff, collaborate with school partners, and help create programs where young people can learn, lead, explore, and have fun.

As the Assistant Program Director, you'll work closely with the Program Director to ensure the program runs smoothly and delivers high-quality experiences focused on Academic Support, Leadership Development, STEM, Literacy, Healthy Living, and Physical Recreation. When the Program Director is unavailable, you'll step into a leadership role as the primary point of contact for staff, participants, families, and school partners.

What You'll Do

You'll help lead the daily operations of the program while supporting staff and ensuring youth have a safe, welcoming, and engaging experience. You'll:

• Support the day-to-day operation of after-school, holiday camp, and summer camp programs.
• Coach, mentor, and provide support to program staff and volunteers.
• Help develop and facilitate engaging activities that encourage youth participation and leadership.
• Build positive relationships with youth, families, school staff, and community partners.
• Support recruitment, special events, parent meetings, and other program activities.
• Monitor attendance, participant information, schedules, and required documentation.
• Help ensure program policies, safety procedures, and regulatory requirements are followed.
• Lead monthly staff meetings and participate in YDC leadership meetings.
• Conduct monthly fire drills and maintain required records.
• Support the Program Director in addressing program, staffing, behavioral, and operational concerns.
• Step into a leadership role and ensure continuity of operations when the Program Director is absent.
• Complete required SACC training and participate in professional development opportunities.
• Take on special projects and other responsibilities that contribute to the success of the program.

What We're Looking For

We're looking for someone who brings energy, initiative, and a genuine commitment to helping young people succeed.

You should have:

• A Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Education, Sociology, Psychology, or a related field.
• At least three (3) years of experience working with youth; experience with elementary or middle school-aged youth is a plus.
• At least one (1) year of staff supervision experience.
• Strong communication, organization, multitasking, and time-management skills.
• The ability to motivate and engage youth through academic, leadership, STEM, literacy, healthy living, and recreational activities.
• A strength-based and youth development approach.
• The ability to take initiative and work effectively in a busy, team-oriented environment.
• Strong judgment, discretion, and the ability to maintain confidentiality.
• Flexibility to attend occasional morning, evening, weekend, and holiday activities, meetings, and trainings.
• Ability to successfully complete and maintain all required background clearances and health screenings.
