Job Summary :

Work Schedule : Monday-Friday, 20 hours per week, no call requirements

Operating room assistants work under the supervision of surgeons, nurses and other surgical staff with a variety of tasks before, during and after surgery.

Responsibilities : Essential Functions

Assists in maintaining a sterile field during surgical procedure through consistent application of aseptic technique.

• Learns and follows policies and procedures for application of sterile technique.
• Demonstrates understanding of identification and transport of surgical specimens.
• Assist OR personnel in positioning patient for the appropriate procedure.
• Assist OR personnel with surgical skin prep as directed.
• Actively participates in the "tear down" and / or turnover of the room following a case.

Learns to readily identify location / secure supplies / equipment in the core, sterile supply, sterile processing and storage areas.

Maintains a professional behavior in attitudes, demeanor, and interactions to achieve organization's mission. (Quality Improvement, Image of Nursing, Interdisciplinary Relationships, Professional Development, Community, and the Healthcare Organization.)

Provides appropriate care specific to the age of the patient, to ensure understanding and comfort level of treatment as outlined in the Age Specific Criteria.
