Night Time Street Sweeper Maintenance Operator II
The City of Salem is hiring a Night Time Street Sweeper Maintenance Operator II. Make an impact: Street sweepers play a vital role in keeping our community safe and clean. You will keep harmful materials like metals, organic waste, and dangerous nutrients from areas near schools, homes, and streets. By clearing the roadside debris, you will make streets safer for pedestrians, runners, and cyclists, and improve driver safety. Your work will also protect wildlife, rivers, and air quality by stopping harmful pollutants from entering the environment. What you will do:
- Operate a regenerative air street sweeper on assigned City routes.
- Clean streets on your route or help with construction projects or spill clean-ups from motor vehicle incidents.
- Operate dump trucks (5-and 10-yard) with tools like snowplows, sand spreaders, and deicing equipment. You'll also use other equipment like front-end loaders, backhoes, and street flushers.
- Write daily reports.
- Keep equipment clean and in good condition.

What are the minimum qualifications?
- Must pass the pre-employment background check, drug test (including marijuana), and physical abilities exam.
- Must have a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or be able to get one within six months of being hired. A Class B CDL is acceptable when you start.
- Two years general maintenance, repair, paving, or construction experience in street right-of-way, street maintenance, public works facilities, utility systems, and public improvements. Preference will be given to experience in specific area of assignment.
- Any combination of experience and training that demonstrate possession of the knowledge, skill and abilities as listed, and ability to perform the essential job functions.

- Experience using regenerative air street sweeping machines and operating different types of construction equipment.
- Knowledge of Salem's geography, layout, and traffic laws in the State of Oregon.
- Understand occupational hazards and safety precautions for operating equipment, street sweeping, and managing traffic control.
- Skills to operate complex construction and transportation equipment.
- Ability to maintain and service various types of equipment.
- Ability to work with little or no direct supervision while maintaining high productivity.
