School Receptionist – Guernsey
Location: St Peter Port / Island-wide, Guernsey (Channel Islands)
Salary: Competitive (approx. £26,000 – £28,000 per annum + Lower Tax)
Contract Type: Full-Time, Permanent
Start Date: ASAP / Immediate
The Opportunity
Wayman Education is seeking a professional and personable School Receptionist for an immediate start on the beautiful island of Guernsey. This is a unique opportunity to join the "Bailiwick" education system, offering a high standard of living, a relaxed island pace, and a welcoming school community that operates with a fusion of British and local culture.
The Role
As the first point of contact for the school, you will be responsible for providing a warm welcome to parents, pupils, and visitors. In Guernsey schools, the Receptionist (often referred to as a School Administration Assistant) is a central hub for the community, requiring a blend of administrative excellence and local sensitivity.
Key Responsibilities:
Front-of-House: Welcoming visitors and ensuring all guest check-ins comply with Guernsey’s specific safeguarding and States of Guernsey policies.
Attendance Coordination: Monitoring daily registration and liaising with parents regarding absences, often using the SIMS database.
Student Services: Acting as a first point of contact for students who are unwell or have general enquiries, and managing basic first aid (training provided).
Clerical Support: Providing secretarial assistance to the Headteacher and Senior Leadership Team, including minute-taking and document production.
Island Liaison: Communicating effectively with various States Departments, external suppliers, and the local community.
The School Environment
Guernsey offers an excellent education system that closely follows the UK National Curriculum but maintains its own unique charm. Whether you are placed in a States-run school or one of the island's prestigious colleges, you will find a commitment to small class sizes and high student engagement.
Why move to Guernsey?
Financial Benefits: Enjoy a favourable tax regime with a flat rate of 20% and no VAT.
Work-Life Balance: Forget long commutes—most island residents are home within 20 minutes, leaving plenty of time to enjoy the 27 stunning beaches.
Safe Community: Benefit from one of the lowest crime rates in the British Isles, making it an ideal place for families.
Professional Growth: Gain experience in a unique jurisdiction that is recognized for educational excellence.
Requirements
Previous experience in a reception or administrative role (school experience is highly desirable).
Strong IT skills, particularly with Microsoft Office and Google Workspace.
Residency/Permit: Candidates must hold a valid Employment Permit or be locally residentially qualified. (Wayman Education can provide guidance on the Population Management process).
A patient, customer-focused approach and the ability to remain calm under pressure.
An enhanced DBS check (and a satisfactory Basic Police Check as per States of Guernsey requirements).
