Conducting patrols, and performing transportation checks and vehicle inspections. Utilizing a variety of government assets for patrolling duties along international borders. One year of general work experience demonstrating decision-making and composure in high-pressure situations; or A bachelor's degree from an accredited institution; or A combination of relevant experience and education. One year of specialized work experience in law enforcement, analyzing information, and making decisions under pressure; or A bachelor's degree with superior academic achievement or one year of graduate-level education in a related field. U.S Citizenship is mandatory. Primary residency in the U.S. for at least three of the last five years. Must be under 40 years of age at the time of selection. Must undergo continuous training, including the U.S. Border Patrol Academy.

Annual Base Salary for newly appointed BPAs varies per grade, ranging from $49,739 to $89,518, depending on duty location and experience. A fully trained BPA may be eligible for an additional 25% of base pay under the BPA Pay Reform Act of 2014. This position offers a clear career ladder, advancing through grade levels without the need for reapplying.
BPAs enjoy a comprehensive array of federal benefits, including health and dental insurance, a generous leave program, and participation in a retirement plan similar to a traditional ROTH 401(k).
