Now is the perfect time to take action—the U.S. Border Patrol (USBP), under U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), is hiring for full-time entry-level Law Enforcement Officer (LEO) positions.
Salary and Benefits
As a newly appointed Border Patrol Agent, your annual base salary will range based on your grade level :
- GL-5 / GL-7 : $49,739 - $89,518 per year
Compensation may vary by duty location due to higher locality pay for federal law enforcement in certain areas. Eligible Border Patrol Agents may also receive additional compensation of up to 25% per the BPA Pay Reform Act of 2014. As a career ladder position, you will progress through grade levels GL-5, GL-7, GL-9, GS-11, and GS-12. Promotion to the next level occurs automatically after completing 52 weeks in each grade.
Border Patrol Agents are entitled to a full range of federal benefits, including health and dental insurance, generous leave programs, and participation in a retirement plan similar to a ROTH 401(k).
Recruitment Incentive
Newly appointed Border Patrol Agents may be eligible for up to $20,000 in recruitment incentives : $10,000 payable upon completing the Border Patrol Academy, and an additional $10,000 for accepting a prioritized location.
Retention Incentive
Agents may also qualify for up to $40,000 in retention incentives over the first four years of service.

Additional Requirements
Candidates must be U.S. citizens, have resided primarily in the U.S. for three of the past five years, and be under the age of 40 at the time of selection, unless exempted by prior federal law enforcement service.
Learn and grow in your career through formal training at the U.S. Border Patrol Academy in Artesia, New Mexico, where you will expand your understanding of immigration laws, law enforcement, physical techniques, and firearms.
