Take Off Operator

The Take Off Operator in our Seattle, Washington plant is primarily responsible to use machines according to safety standards in the area of the production line that stacks, tapes, and bundles gypsum wallboard board together for outbound shipments to customers. The successful candidate will also be responsible to add spacers (known as sluetters) between stacks of bundled wallboard, performing timely quality inspections on a regular schedule using an internal computer and written system(s), ensuring the accuracy of production count, and transporting the bundled gypsum wallboard to the correct area of the warehouse using a forklift. This position reports directly to the Shift Performance Manager and works independently and within a team setting.
Shift : 7 : 00am-7 : 00pm, 7 : 00pm-7 : 00am Pay : $29.29 per hour
Essential Duties
- Champions a safety-first environment and keeps up to date on new safety policies, procedures, and initiatives
- Performs quality checks per the quality control plan and escalates issues to Line Production Lead if required
- Safely operates bundler and stacker machines and tools to produce wallboard according to quality and specification standards
- Properly adds 8 lbs. sluetters between bundled wallboard for each load according to standards and places sluetters in the warehouse for load placement. Re-supplies sluetters at takeoff using a fork truck
- Adheres to Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO) procedures to help address mechanical issues or upset conditions
- Performs daily fork truck inspection and refuel as needed
- Places wallboard loads in warehouse properly with forklift adhering to all safety rules and traffic guidelines
- Clear rejected wallboard from the reject stacker with forklift
- Maintains an accurate wallboard count making sure every wallboard is of good quality, ensure culled boards are accounted for according to systems and procedures
- Assists with troubleshooting responses to problems or breakdowns in the Take Off area and on the lines as required
- Adheres to all housekeeping standards and ensures workspace is clean, safe, and in working order within assigned area(s)
- Maintains in-depth and ongoing knowledge of assigned equipment, work area(s), procedural and safety updates
- Works well with others in a team environment
- Adheres to all company policies and procedures
- Changes out end tape, zip tape, and other consumables on the machine as required
- Assists with projects and administrative paperwork including recording and entering data into established systems, monthly Safety Management Audit Tool (SMATs), inventory tracking, damage and injury reports, and World Class Manufacturing (WCM) work area improvement projects.
- Participates in daily pre-shift meetings
- Participates as required in AIB board meetings and completes AIB tasks as required
- Participates in biweekly training / continuous improvement days
- Must report to work on a consistent and timely basis
Minimum Knowledge and Skills Required

Provided is the pay rate for this position which is
$28.16per hour, plusDay (7am-7pm) or Grave (7pm-7am. In addition to the hourly base pay rate, this position is eligible for Quarterlybonus payments. The targeted bonus amount can be up to5-6%based on company and individual performance measures. Bonus payments are part of variable compensation and by nature can vary based on company and individual performance and is not a guarantee. Works in a manufacturing plant environment with limited HVAC, concrete floors, and exposure to industrial noise, dust, chemicals, and temperature changes. Normal plant operation is 24 hours, 7 days a week and work hours may vary depending on business needs. May require long hours, and weekend and holiday work. May require travel by air and rental cars.
Physical Demands
Must be capable of wearing personal protective equipment necessary to comply with government and company safety standards whenever engineered methods of reducing hazards or physical requirements cannot be reasonably accommodated. Perform tasks that require extensive and rigorous walking, bending, twisting, pushing and pulling, gripping, stair, and ladder climbing, entering confined spaces, navigating rough terrain, and occasional lifting of up to 75 lbs. May require long periods of sitting, walking, standing, working on a computer, or engaging in a telephone conversation.
