Job Description
American Traveler is hiring a Med / Surg Oncology RN for 12-hour night shifts in a Level III Trauma Center in Washington with EPIC experience and BLS / NIHSS certifications required.
Responsibilities
Work in the Med / Surg Oncology unit of a Level III Trauma CenterPatient population includes oncology (neutropenic, post-op), psych, and general med / surg patients such as COPD, CHF, sepsis, DVT, AKI, and dialysisPatient ratios are typically 1 : 4-5 and may include both COVID and non-COVID patientsChemo patients are not assigned to travelersUse of EPIC for charting, BD Alaris IV pumps, and PyxisCentralized telemetry monitoring is available 24 / 7Expected to float to other med / surg units, ED holding, and COVID units as required12-hour night shifts with variable weekend requirements based on unit needsSchedule provided three weeks at a time, released about ten days in advanceFirst-time travelers are welcome to applyInitial orientation includes two days hospital-wide and one day unit-specific trainingTele competency test must be completed and passed before starting the roleSupport on the unit includes techs, a free-floating charge nurse, and 24 / 7 hospitalist and RT coverageAssigned breaks and break buddy system in place to promote adequate restEmphasis on customer service, teamwork, regular whiteboard updates, hourly rounding, and bedside reportingAll scrubs colors are permittedFree parking is available onsiteRTO requests must be submitted to the manager for approvalNo use of phones on the unit; adherence to medication safety protocols is requiredRequirements
Active WA or compact RN license required (pending license may be considered with proof of application)Minimum of one year recent med / surg or oncology RN experience requiredBLS and NIHSS certifications requiredMust pass rhythm interpretation exam prior to startExperience with EPIC charting system strongly preferredAbility to perform basic rhythm interpretation, care for post-op ortho / neuro, manage various surgical drains and wounds, and perform chest tube managementProficiency with IV antibiotics, heparin drips, nebulizer treatments, and CIWA managementBenefits
