Position Summary

This position oversees the development, implementation, and adherence to the academic and research compliance program for the College of Medicine. It increases awareness of regulatory policies and coordinates programs to promote compliance with university guidelines focused on sponsored research, laboratory safety standards, and outside activity disclosures.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Manage the Conflict of Commitment and Interest (COCI) / Outside Activities process and provide recommendations to senior leadership on employee disclosures.
• Assist the Unit Executive Officer in implementing action steps—such as audits, education, and policy updates—to comply with state and federal regulations.
• Facilitate the development, evaluation, and annual review of the UI COM Compliance Plan.
• Monitor state and federal regulations, fraud alerts, and advisory opinions to ensure employee and trainee compliance.
• Plan, assign, and review staff work; hire, train, and develop staff to meet group objectives.
• Facilitate principal investigators’ development of appropriate protocols for the responsible use of human and animal subjects.
• Perform additional duties and participate in special projects as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Master’s degree in business, legal, or public health required. Institutional Review Board Professional Certification (CIP) preferred.

Minimum of 5 years of higher‑education experience, including 2 years in an academic medical‑center environment working with physicians and 2 years in regulatory compliance.

Knowledge of state and federal regulatory compliance standards required; computer literacy required.

Strong management, interpersonal, and written communication skills.
