- Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough patient assessments, including medical history review, physical examinations, and diagnostic evaluations to identify pain sources.
- Develop individualized treatment plans utilizing advanced techniques such as interventional radiology procedures, nerve blocks, and botulinum toxin treatments.
- Utilize electronic health record (EHR) systems like Epic to document patient encounters accurately and efficiently.
- Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams—including psychiatry, neurology, and physical therapy—to optimize pain management strategies.
- Perform medical imaging reviews, including CT scans and other diagnostic radiology tools, to assist in accurate diagnosis and treatment planning.
- Educate patients on pain management options, lifestyle modifications, and health coaching to promote active participation in their care.
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations and maintain meticulous medical records for all patient interactions.
- Requirements
- Medical degree (MD or DO) with board certification or eligibility in Pain Medicine or Anesthesiology with subspecialty training in pain management.
- Proven experience with interventional radiology techniques such as nerve blocks, catheterization procedures, and epidural injections.
- Familiarity with EMR systems like Epic and other electronic health record (EHR) platforms for documentation and data retrieval.
- Strong knowledge of medical imaging modalities including CT scans relevant to pain diagnosis.
- Experience in acute pain management within hospital or outpatient settings; inpatient experience preferred.
- Ability to perform procedures requiring aseptic technique, suturing skills, and airway management when necessary.
- Excellent patient service skills with a compassionate approach to complex cases involving chronic pain or post-operative recovery.
- Basic life support (BLS) certification; additional certifications such as Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) are advantageous.
- Knowledge of pharmacology related to pain medications, including opioid stewardship and non-opioid alternatives.
