About the Role

A leading systematic hedge fund is seeking a Senior Software Language Engineer (Python) to help shape the firm’s Python-based research and execution platform.

This is a hands-on, deeply technical role (90% coding) focused on evolving the Python runtime, performance, and data infrastructure that power large-scale quantitative research and algorithmic trading systems.

You’ll be part of a small, world-class engineering team building the platform layer, not applications — designing, optimizing, and extending Python to support cutting-edge modeling, simulation, and execution pipelines used by researchers and data scientists across the firm.

What You’ll Do

Architect and evolve the firm’s Python ecosystem for research and execution — from runtime optimization to distributed data frameworks.

Write and optimize thousands of lines of production-grade, performance-critical Python code.

Collaborate directly with quantitative researchers and data scientists to translate mathematical logic into highly performant systems.

Mentor and guide other senior engineers on advanced Python design patterns, performance tuning, and ecosystem best practices.

Integrate and extend modern Python frameworks (NumPy, Pandas, PyArrow, Polars, PyTorch, etc.) for scalable analytics and compute.

Continuously improve research throughput and trading performance through data-driven engineering enhancements.

Requirements

What We’re Looking For

5-10 years of professional software development experience in high-performance or data-intensive systems (finance, trading, or high-growth startups).

Expert-level Python engineer — you understand internals (GIL, C-extensions, async I / O, memory profiling) and write optimized, clean, reliable code.

An ability to produce highly optimized python code for performance critical functions

Familiarity with the Python Data Science Ecosystem

A highly analytical mindset and understanding of how programming languages can express macroeconomic mathematical logic.

Strong background in computer science, mathematics, or quantitative fields.

Deep familiarity with the Python data-science and compute ecosystem.

Experience designing or extending programming languages, compilers, or DSLs a major plus.

Highly analytical mindset — fluent in algorithms, systems design, and mathematical reasoning.

Track record of building core platforms, SDKs, or frameworks, not just applications.

A degree in Mathematics or Computer Science

From a leveling perspective : this role aligns to an L5 / E5 engineer at FAANG-caliber companies — highly senior, deeply hands-on, and operating at a staff-level technical depth without management responsibilities.
