Database Admin, Supervisor

Position Description :

The ideal candidate will bring over five years of experience in an IT technical role, with a strong background in Amazon Web Services (AWS) or database administration. They will also have demonstrated leadership abilities, whether through formal supervisory responsibilities or informal team guidance. This hybrid position requires a flexible work style, as duties will be performed both onsite and remotely.

What You Will Do

Provide leadership, direction, and mentorship to a team of Database Administrators (DBAs), fostering a high-performance culture built on continuous improvement and advanced technical excellence.

Architect, champion, and continually evolve a strategic roadmap for enterprise-wide database management, anticipating future business needs and technology trends.

Oversee the deployment and governance of high-availability, disaster recovery, and multi-cloud solutions to minimize risk and maximize uptime.

Maintain enterprise standards for database design, performance, scalability, and security, ensuring systems exceed organizational and regulatory requirements.

Proactively assess and develop the skillset of the database management team to support professional growth and the evolving needs of the organization.

Serve as the senior technical liaison between IT, business stakeholders, and leadership, helping to shape architecture and strategic initiatives for current and future database platforms.

Drive the organization's adoption of new and emerging database technologies, guiding the team through the assessment, piloting, and enterprise rollout of innovative solutions.

Oversee the strategic planning and successful delivery of enterprise-wide database projects including migrations, major upgrades, and greenfield deployments, ensuring alignment with organizational roadmaps, budgets, and timelines.

Own resource planning and allocation for concurrent projects, optimizing capacity to balance delivery, scalability, and operational excellence.

Provide 24 / 7 operational oversight, crisis management, and escalation leadership for all critical database incidents and business continuity scenarios.

Work directly with vendor representatives to ensure proper support and response for areas of responsibility.

Provide detailed status of support activities or problem management to impacted parties.

Ensure technical resources are knowledgeable about expected service levels for services relying on technology supported by their areas.

Assist with definition and implementation of service level metrics.

Assist with defining or updating of new IT policies and procedures.

Provide detailed information about resources or technology maintenance contracts in support of financial forecasting.

Regular and reliable attendance is required in performance of job.

What You Will Need

Proficiency in SQL and experience with diverse relational and non-relational platforms including Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, etc.

Experience with cloud and hybrid database environments, including AWS RDS

Demonstrated success in architecting and / or managing complex, high-availability, and disaster recovery solutions at scale.

Outstanding ability to solve highly complex technical problems with innovative, enterprise-focused solutions.

Preferred Bachelor's Degree MIS, Computer Science, Mathematics, Business Administration or other related field or an equivalent combination of formal education and / or work experience in addition to the following job-related experience :

Demonstrated ability to direct the activities of a department, including planning, budgeting, personnel development and other administrative functions.

Demonstrated ability to identify, prioritize and negotiate application support and project requirements with process owners and key business segment leadership.

Experience managing small to medium hardware or software implementation projects.

Demonstrated ability to manage integrated solutions that support multiple business functions including understanding of business processes inside the functions and related technology that supports those processes.

Demonstrated ability guiding the business towards strategic IT solutions, ensuring business leadership has a clear understanding of the cost / benefit of the solution.

Experience managing all aspects of the system development lifecycle, including requirements gathering, RFP development, software evaluations, project methodologies, testing and deployment.

Experience with the application of math, algebra, and statistical methods.

Experience in use and function of office equipment including computers and applicable software.

Experience with infrastructure technologies and experience communicating impacts resulting from development activities.

Experience interacting, advising and communicating effectively with subordinates, peers and all levels of management.

Experience developing information, conducting meetings and making presentations.

Demonstrated ability to read and write fluently in English.

Preferred Applicable Driver's License

Able to use office tools and equipment required.

Communicate and / or exchange information or instructions; conduct oral presentations and / or meetings.

Visual ability sufficient to perform job duties
