The Wellness Manager is responsible for the management and oversight of The Aster LA’s wellness department, including group fitness, Pilates, yoga, and personal training. This role focuses on department operations, staff leadership, program development, and financial oversight to support membership engagement, retention, and overall club performance.
The Wellness Manager spends the majority of their time on managerial and administrative responsibilities, exercising independent judgment in supervising personnel, managing wellness activities, budgets and wellness operations. Instructional or client-facing activity is occasional and performed only as needed to support quality standards, staff coverage, or special programming.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Program Development & Quality Oversight
o Oversee the development and execution of wellness programming, including group fitness, Pilates, yoga, and personal training.
o Evaluate program performance and participation to identify opportunities for improvement, growth as well as retention methods.
o Responsible for the collaborative production of wellness programming and ensuring it aligns with member expectations, operational capacity, and brand standards.
Financial & Operational Administration
o Manage the wellness department budget, including expense tracking, invoice review, and financial accountability.
o Coordinate equipment purchasing and resource allocation in partnership with club leadership and Finance.
o Ensure compliance with operational, safety, and regulatory requirements.
o Oversee scheduling, vendor coordination, and day-to-day administrative functions of the department.
Department Management & Personnel Oversight
o Manage the day-to-day operations of the wellness department, ensuring consistent service quality and alignment with The Aster’s standards.
o Lead recruitment, hiring, onboarding, scheduling, performance evaluations, and ongoing development of wellness staff and instructors.
o Maintain accurate employee records related to performance, training, attendance, and policy compliance.
o Provide direction, coaching, and oversight to ensure department goals are met.
Membership, Instructional Support & Collaboration
o Partner with the Membership Manager to support membership acquisition and retention through wellness programming.
o Provide input during member tours and sales discussions to communicate the value of wellness offerings.
o Collaborate with Marketing, Culinary and Club leadership to align wellness initiatives with broader club programming.
o May occasionally observe or step in to lead fitness classes or private sessions for quality assurance, staff coverage, or special events; instructional duties are incidental and not a primary function of the role.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
o Professional certifications in personal training, Pilates, yoga, or related fitness disciplines are required and support program credibility, but the role is not intended to function as a primary instructor.
o Experience managing a fitness, wellness, or related department within a hospitality, private club, or membership-based environment preferred.
o Service driven and forward thinking approach to business.
o Demonstrated ability to supervise staff, manage schedules, and conduct performance evaluations.
o Working knowledge of budgeting, expense management, and operational administration.
o Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
o Ability to plan, prioritize, delegate, and manage multiple responsibilities simultaneously.
o Professional, approachable demeanor with strong interpersonal skills.
o Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and attend select club events as required.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
o Work is primarily performed indoors in a controlled environment.
o Ability to move throughout the club to observe operations and attend meetings.
o Physical demands may vary on an occasional basis when supporting instructor coverage during absences and will depend on the type of class or wellness activity being facilitated (e.g., Pilates, yoga, group fitness).
o Occasional lifting of materials or equipment will also vary depending on the activity being performed.
o Requires standing, walking, sitting, visual acuity, and the ability to communicate effectively.
