Truck Driver
The Truck Driver will perform various roles, including making customer product deliveries, and assist in training new drivers.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Safely operate vehicles to transport product to and from designated locations.
- Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections to ensure vehicle safety and functionality.
- Unload product using appropriate equipment and techniques.
- Report any unsafe conditions or behaviors observed in the field.
- Adhere to all traffic laws, regulations, and company policies while on the road.
- Communicate effectively with dispatchers, supervisors, customer service, and customers as needed.
- Check Bills of Lading to ensure destination, product strength, and all customer requirements are met.
- Utilize cab mounted tablets for daily assignments.
- Complete daily E-Logs.
- Wear all the required Personal Protective Equipment.
- Perform routine maintenance on trucks, including cleaning, fueling, and minor repairs to pass roadside inspections and avoid Out of Service violations.
- Take truck to maintenance shop when additional repairs are needed.
- Follow customer policies while at their facilities, as long as they meet or exceed Kuehne's policies.
- Notify the Transportation Department of expected delays of greater than 30 minutes.
- Double-check BOL information before leaving the plant.
- Follow designated routes and schedules to ensure timely deliveries.
- Conduct new hire truck driver field training in conjunction with supervisors, dispatch, and the Transportation Operations & Safety Manager.
- Assist with potential transportation emergencies such as motor vehicle accidents, product releases, injuries, or equipment retrieval.
- Provide instructions to other drivers as requested by the Dispatcher or Customer Relations Departments.
- Monitor emails and phone messages asking for assistance or advice from other Transportation personnel.
- Must have reliable transportation.
- Must be able to pass a 10-panel controlled substance testing and random testing after that.
- Must be able to pass a background investigation check and maintain in good standing order, as per TSA's TWIC criteria.
Education and Experience:
- Must hold a required commercial driver's license appropriate for the weight of the vehicle to be operated.
- Minimum of 5 years of truck driving experience with a clean safety and disciplinary record. Previous Hazmat experience required.
- Certified with Commercial Driver's License (CDL), Class A with X endorsement (X = Tanker & Hazardous Material).
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods sitting in a trailer cab.
- Potential for sleeping in the cab during certain assignments.
- Capable of standing and walking.
- Capable of lifting 40 lbs. from floor to waist height.
- Capable of carrying 40 lbs. for short distances.
- Must be able to work in inclement weather conditions for extended periods of time.
- Frequently climbs stairs and ladders less than 6-8- feet in height.
