Responsibilities

Howmet Fastening Systems (HFS) is seeking a Tooling Specialist V, Machine Build in our Fullerton, CA location.

Duties and Responsibilities :

• Fabricate and assemble all tooling pertaining to custom machine automation including tooling prints, production prints.
• Must be able to set up / operate all tool room type machinery.
• Diagnose causes of malfunctions in machines, equipment, and related mechanisms.
• Identify, broken, worn or otherwise defective parts, assembly, tooling, and fixtures, and determine whether they can and / or should be repaired, rebuilt, or replaced.
• Participate with engineers an manufacturing management in designing modifications to machines and equipment
• Determine type, configuration, dimensions, quantity, quality, and / other characteristics of materials and parts required for repairing, rebuilding and / or modifying machines, equipment
• Describe materials, configurations, dimensions, specifications, and / or procedures required for fabricating and / or machining and / or treat heating and finishing parts, tools, fixtures, etc, by writing specifications and making sketches and shop drawings
• Determine whether parts, tooling, and fixtures can or should be repaired, rebuilt, or fabricated in-house, or whether services or items should be obtained from outside sources.
• Request materials, tooling, and equipment as needed.
• Lay out materials, and set-up and operate various machine shop machines and equipment to perform the difficult fabrication and machining of precision parts, tooling, fixtures.
• Provide less qualified machinists with specifications, instructions, and guidance, as required, for performing less difficult fabrication and machining of parts, tooling, fixtures, etc;
• Inspect repaired, rebuilt, and new parts, assemblies, tooling, fixtures, etc., to ensure conformity to specifications.
• Trouble-shoot and solve problems of the most advanced level
• Consistently Identifies potential improvements, e.g. decrease run-time, increase tool life, etc.
• Able to complete one off jobs to exacting tolerances without direct supervision
• Needs to be team driven and meet goals set for the department
