Patient Care Tech

General Summary of Position

MedStar Health is seeking a Patient Care Technician to join our team at MedStar Washington Hospital Center. As a Patient Care Technician, you will be part of the patient-centered care team, providing direct patient care activities under the supervision of a Registered Nurse or medical staff / providers. You will assist nursing and medical staff with procedures and tests, and support patients with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs). Responsibilities include specimen collection, phlebotomy, IV insertion, EKG, and documentation in the health record.

Primary Duties

• Assist patients with ADLs and personal hygiene, including bathing, dressing, skin care, positioning, feeding, ambulation, toileting, and range of motion activities.
• Support patient mobilization and rehabilitation, including use of crutches and walkers, and transfer / transport of patients.
• Collect specimens, perform venipuncture / phlebotomy, obtain EKGs, apply electrodes, and manage physiologic monitoring equipment. Insert and care for IVs, change dressings, and inspect IV sites.
• Measure and document patient's intake and output, vital signs, height, weight, pulse oximetry, and point-of-care testing.
• Perform routine treatments such as Foley catheter care, suctioning, wound care, turning, postmortem care, and oxygen setup, following hospital policies.
• Maintain patient comfort, confidentiality, and dignity. Observe patients, including 1 : 1 observation and restraint application. Prepare patients for provider examinations.
• Assist providers and nurses during examinations and procedures. Conduct rounds and report patient status changes.
• Participate in patient / family education, staff meetings, and quality improvement initiatives.
• Maintain a clean and safe environment, support environmental services, and assist with patient transport and errands.
• Stock supplies and ensure orderly utility rooms.

Qualifications

This position offers a hiring range of $19.347 - $29.109.
