As a Fishery Sampler (Biological Science Assistant) based in Clackamas, Oregon, you will collect data used to estimate fishing effort and catch of recreational fisheries occurring in the lower Willamette and Columbia rivers, as well as harvest estimates for commercial fisheries occurring in the Columbia River. Data collected by this position is used to aid in making fishery management decisions, promulgation of regulations, proposing fishing seasons, and making in-season adjustments to adopted seasons. Duties include :

Conducting angler creel surveys

Hatchery sampling

Sampling at commercial fish buying stations

Fish passage counts

Spawning ground surveys

Sturgeon tagging.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

Minimum qualifications are not established for this position; however, we are seeking applicants with the following experience or skills. Preference for interviews may be given to candidates with these skills and background :

Experience conducting angler creel surveys.

Experience identifying adult salmonids and other fish species.

Collecting and recording field data.

Experience interacting with the public.

Experience collecting biological samples from fish.

Anyone who has or is in pursuit of a Fisheries or Wildlife Science degree or related degree in biological / ecological sciences.

The salary listed is the non-PERS qualifying salary range. If the successful candidate is PERS qualifying, the salary range will reflect an additional 6.95%
