- A nationally recognized insurance organization is seeking a seasoned finance leader to guide its reporting, accounting governance, and strategic financial planning functions. This role will oversee multiple reporting foundations, ensure adherence to evolving regulatory expectations, and partner closely with senior executives to support enterprise-wide initiatives. The AVP will lead a distributed team, strengthen financial integrity, and play a central role in shaping a modern, efficient finance organization. ##
- Key Responsibilities
- Lead, mentor, and develop a finance team of 15+ professionals across several office locations, including direct leadership of managers and emerging leaders.
- Direct the preparation of timely, accurate, and insightful GAAP financial statements that support strategic decision-making at the executive level.
- Oversee the full statutory reporting cycle for life insurance entities, ensuring quality, transparency, and alignment with regulatory requirements.
- Drive transformation efforts aimed at accelerating close timelines, standardizing operational processes, and advancing automation across the finance ecosystem.
- Collaborate with senior leadership on enterprise initiatives-including new product development, M&A activity, and technology implementations.
- Evaluate the accounting implications of complex transactions and newly structured reinsurance agreements, ensuring appropriate treatment and compliance.
- Review financial results across multiple business segments-such as supplemental benefits, group products, and retirement services-to ensure accuracy, consistency, and analytical soundness.
- Build and maintain a strong internal control framework aligned with SOX requirements, ensuring rigor around the general ledger and reporting functions.
- Serve as a key point of contact for external auditors and regulatory bodies, managing inquiries and ensuring adherence to technical accounting standards. ##
- Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required; advanced credentials (e.g., CPA or master’s degree) strongly preferred.
- At least 8 years of progressive accounting / reporting experience, including a minimum of 4 years managing teams.
- Comprehensive technical expertise in insurance accounting, financial reporting, and related regulatory frameworks.
- Demonstrated proficiency in statutory accounting principles (SAP), internal controls, and SOX compliance.
- Strong capability in cross-functional project leadership, including initiatives that span multiple business areas.
- Hands-on experience with financial systems and technology used to support reporting and accounting operations.
