Network Engineer

A leading IT services provider is seeking an experienced Network Engineer to design, implement, and support secure, scalable, and reliable network solutions for clients across multiple industries. This role is client-facing within a value-added reseller (VAR) / IT consulting environment and requires a strong combination of technical expertise, consulting acumen, and hands-on project execution skills.

The ideal candidate has deep experience with medium business and enterprise-grade network technologies, thrives in customer environments, and can translate business objectives into effective technical solutions.

Key Responsibilities

Network Design & Implementation

Consult with clients to understand technical requirements and broader business goals.

Design and deploy network infrastructure including switches, routers, firewalls, wireless access points, VPN, SD-WAN, ZTNA, and structured cabling.

Build secure, segmented, and resilient network topologies to maximize performance and reliability.

Configure routing protocols, VLANs, VPNs, traffic policies, QoS, and related security settings.

Consulting & Pre-Sales Support

Serve as a technical Subject Matter Expert to support sales and account teams during discovery, design, and proposal development.

Present technical solutions to stakeholders ranging from IT staff to executives.

Collaborate with internal teams and vendor partners to align solutions with client needs.

Operations & Support

Troubleshoot network issues and provide responsive, high-quality support for client environments.

Identify and proactively address risks, performance issues, and misconfigurations.

Work across internal departments to resolve escalated support items.

Maintain accurate documentation and ticketing records for billing, tracking, and knowledge sharing.

Standards & Security Best Practices

Follow industry best practices for network security, configuration management, and monitoring.

Document network architectures, configurations, and changes according to internal standards.

Contribute to continuous process improvement in engineering documentation and workflows.

Qualifications & Skills

Required Experience & Education

5+ years of experience in Network Engineering, Consulting, or Technical Implementation roles, ideally within a VAR, MSP, or IT services firm.

Demonstrated ability to design, implement, and troubleshoot enterprise network environments.

Strong understanding of routing protocols (OSPF, BGP, EIGRP), switching technologies, firewalls, wireless architecture, and security best practices.

Technical & Operational Competencies

Solid understanding of the OSI model and core networking protocols.

Familiarity with platforms from vendors such as Cisco, HPE, Aruba, Extreme, and others.

Experience with structured cabling, patching, and network documentation standards.

Comfortable supporting endpoints, virtualized systems, hyperconverged environments, and mixed network architectures.

Ability to communicate effectively with IT teams, department leaders, and executive stakeholders.

Strong interpersonal, relationship-building, and client-facing communication skills.

Ability to translate technical concepts into business-relevant insights.

Preferred Certifications

Cisco, HPE Aruba, Extreme Networks, or equivalent networking certifications.
