Job Title : Transport Engineer III (Long Distance / Ultra Long Haul)

Role Overview :
The Long Distance (LD) Transport Engineer will be responsible for the engineering, planning, deployment, testing, and turn-up of Long Distance (LD) and Ultra-Long Haul (ULH) transport networks. This role supports Verizon's next-generation optical transport infrastructure, including fixed grid, flex grid, and advanced ULH systems.
Must Have Skills :
Telecom industry experience (5+ years preferred).
Strong knowledge of Long Distance, Ultra-Long Haul (ULH), and OTN mesh networks.
Hands-on experience with SONET / SDH, ULH, OTN Mesh, and WDM transport.
Vendor experience with Ciena, Infinera, Fujitsu (long-haul networks).
Systems experience : BGW / Granite (XNG), CoFEE (Canvas), Nautilus, ICON, CCP, Venue, 3GIS / FIMS.
Experience designing and engineering ULH transport networks.
Strong process management and results-driven execution.
Proficiency with Windows-based tools and corporate database systems.
Desired Skills :
Ability to read and interpret engineering specifications and drawings.
Experience with equipment inventory management and network design.
Knowledge of legacy network operating systems.
Strong troubleshooting, risk assessment, and mitigation skills.
Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with teams.
Strong time management and prioritization skills.
Key Responsibilities :
Engineer and support LD / ULH transport network builds and expansions.
Plan, design, test, and turn up transport systems including fiber, equipment, and network integration.
Monitor network utilization and support capacity growth initiatives.
Troubleshoot outages and respond to escalations.
Support site decommissioning, power optimization, and housekeeping activities.
Maintain accurate engineering, provisioning, and inventory databases.
Perform database cleanup to ensure system and network integrity.
Collaborate with peers to ensure on-time delivery supporting business and customer needs.
Stay current with evolving transport and optical technologies.
Education & Experience :
Bachelor's degree in a related technical field or equivalent experience
5+ years of telecom experience in transport engineering or related roles
Work Schedule :
Standard Day Shift : 8 : 00 AM - 5 : 00 PM
No weekend work
No on-call requirement
