The Department of Customer Services is hiring a Motor Vehicle Control Inspector I to perform duties pertaining to the enforcement of rules regulations and procedures governing common carrier companies and motor vehicle safety inspection stations in assigned areas.

• Conduct field investigations of complaints on abandoned and neglected vehicles.
• Conduct field inspections of various vehicles for compliance with City ordinances and State laws including :

Minimum Qualification Requirements

At the time of application you must be a citizen national or permanent resident alien of the United States or a non-citizen eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENT :

Equivalent to graduation from high school. Responsible work experience which demonstrated the ability to perform the essential functions of the job may be substituted for education.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT :

Two (2) years of experience in inspectional investigative instructional or repair work which shall have included ascertaining the overall mechanical operating and safety condition of motor vehicles.

LICENSE REQUIREMENT :

Possession of a valid appropriate drivers license (automobile / Type 3) prior to appointment.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT :

Possession of a special police commission prior to completion of probation . During the probationary period selectees shall be fingerprinted photographed and subject to a background investigation by the Honolulu Police Department.
