Job Summary :
The Medical Assistant (PCP and Float) supports providers, nurses, and on-site Specialty Care Providers in delivering safe, efficient medical services at the clinic. Working under general supervision, the Medical Assistant performs both administrative and clinical tasks such as scheduling appointments, greeting participants, maintaining medical records, taking vital signs, preparing exam rooms, and ensuring equipment and supplies are properly maintained. The role requires close collaboration with all members of the
- team to uphold the organization’s mission, values, and team culture.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Assist medical staff (or, for Float MAs, on-site Specialty Care Providers) in addressing participant needs within the clinic.Prepare participants for appointments, including setting up exam rooms, checking participants in and out, and obtaining accurate histories of present illness.Perform pre-exam physical assessments such as measuring and documenting vital signs and assist physicians during exams as appropriate.Carry out general medical procedures (e.g., dressing changes, suture removal) under proper authorization and in compliance with state training requirements.Collect and prepare laboratory specimens; sterilize medical and dental equipment following established guidelines.Triage and manage unscheduled requests for physician visits as directed.For Float MAs : review specialist schedules daily to ensure appointment slots are filled; communicate weekly schedules to on-site specialists and / or coordinators.Support specialists by preparing participants for exams, documenting history of current conditions, ensuring physicians have required orders and information, and documenting procedures and care in Athena.Maintain clinic logs, ensuring exam rooms are stocked, sanitized, and prepared for all encounters.Maintain daily Emergency Cart logs, medication / vaccine refrigerator logs, and sharps container logs.Perform required quality-control checks on clinic lab equipment and maintain associated logs.Deliver and document ordered procedures and care; provide participant education as directed by PCPs or specialists.Perform staff and non-staff COVID-19 testing as needed.
