Written Exam :
Applicants MUST apply ONLINE to reserve a seat for the written exam. Applicants are allowed to sign up for one (1) of the three (3) available exams. The maximum limit for each exam is 200 applicants. If any of the exam options are no longer available, then limit has been reached.

JOB SUMMARY :
Under supervision, learn and apply the skills required to perform the duties of a Fire Fighter. Perform other related work as required.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS :
Attend, and successfully complete, a recruit training and orientation school providing classroom and field instruction in basic fire procedures, techniques, and skills, including lectures, practical demonstrations, and participation in courses covering areas prescribed by Richardson Fire Department and / or the Texas Commission on Fire Protection. Successfully complete Emergency Medical Technician and Paramedic certification classes approved by Richardson Fire Department, successfully complete the Richardson Fire Department Paramedic field training program, when assigned. May be assigned to work in any Division or Section within the department. Performance of duties must meet the expectations of the department and requirements of the position to which assigned. Essential job functions include, but are not limited to, effectively utilize hoses, ladders, tools, appliances and equipment in the course of fire suppression and rescue activities; administer appropriate emergency medical services in accordance with the level of EMS certification; perform other duties as assigned, e.g., public education, fire prevention, code enforcement, etc.; work on special assignments as directed; routinely maintain facilities and equipment, including facility custodial duties, equipment inspection, maintenance, and documentation requirements. Study technical and academic materials to maintain a working knowledge of fire districts, fire department equipment, apparatus, fire suppression techniques, EMS protocols, fire prevention activities and other topics as assigned. Work in both indoor and outdoor environments subject to extremes of temperature, inclement weather, intermittent exposure to dust, fumes, loud noise intensity for prolonged periods, and other hazardous conditions while using proper safety precautions. Perform physical training. Maintain acceptable physical fitness level and hear and see safely and effectively to perform the essential functions of the job. Maintain physical activity over prolonged periods, including standing, walking, kneeling, stooping in awkward positions and moving / lifting heavy objects of up to 165 pounds. Work various Administrative and Operations shift / tour schedules as assigned. Work under unpredictable hazardous conditions, including but not limited to, fire suppression, hazardous materials incidents, emergency medical activity, performing rescues or providing other emergency or non-emergency services, with appropriate safety precautions. Communicate courteously and effectively with the public, officials and other City employees.
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS :
Conduct and participate in safety education and public relations programs. Perform other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED EDUCATION, DEGREES, CERTIFICATES, AND / OR LICENSES :
High School Diploma or G.E.D. required. Must have Texas Class C Drivers License or equivalent from another state at time of application; must obtain and maintain Texas Class B Driver's License within a period specified by the Fire Department.
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, KNOWLEDGE, AND SKILLS :
Must have the skills required for communicating and understanding written and oral instructions. Must be able to reason abstractly, using mechanical concepts. Must project a positive attitude, with an orientation toward teamwork and cooperation, with ability to interact well with others. Good social and life skills required. Applicant must be at least 21 years old on or before date of hire and a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident.
