Position Summary : Mainframe zOS System Programmer
Job Description :
We are seeking an experienced z / OS System Programmer to join our mainframe team. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in managing, maintaining, and upgrading IBM z / OS environments, with proven experience in performing z / OS product upgrades and related system enhancements.
Key Responsibilities :
- Install, configure, and maintain IBM z / OS operating systems and related subsystems.
- Plan, coordinate, and execute z / OS product upgrades, including PTF (Program Temporary Fix) application and migration activities.
- Analyze system performance and troubleshoot issues related to z / OS and its components.
- Manage system parameters, configuration files, and system initialization procedures.
- Collaborate with application teams, network teams, and storage administrators to ensure smooth system operations.
- Develop and maintain system automation scripts and tools to improve operational efficiency.
- Monitor system logs and alerts, perform root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions.
- Maintain documentation related to system configurations, upgrade procedures, and operational guidelines.
- Ensure compliance with security policies and standards on the mainframe environment.
- Provide technical support and training to junior system programmers and other IT staff.
- Participate in disaster recovery planning and testing.
Required Skills and Experience :
Extensive experience with IBM z / OS operating system administration and system programming.Hands-on experience with z / OS product upgrades, including :Planning and scheduling upgrade activities.
Applying PTFs and managing SMP / E (System Modification Program / Extended).Testing and validating system functionality post-upgrade.Coordinating with IBM support and vendors during upgrade cycles.Strong knowledge of z / OS components such as JES2 / JES3, RACF, VTAM, TCP / IP, DFSMS, and JES.Experience with SMP / E for software maintenance and installation.Familiarity with mainframe hardware (IBM Z series) and related firmware upgrades.Proficient in JCL, REXX, CLIST, and other scripting languages used in mainframe environments.Good understanding of system security, backup, and recovery procedures.Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work under pressure.Strong communication and teamwork skills.Preferred Qualifications :
IBM z / OS System Programming certification.Experience with automation tools like Ansible or IBM Z Automation.Knowledge of z / OSMF (z / OS Management Facility).Experience with performance tuning and capacity planning.
