Job Summary

Business Operational Concepts (BOC) is currently seeking an Azure Solutions Architect to work with our government. The ideal candidate for this position will serve as a Solutions Architect within the Agencys Production Operations and Infrastructure (PO&I) Support Office. The ideal candidate is a highly specialized software systems professional with deep expertise in all phases of development within cloud and hybrid environments built on Microsoft Azure. They possess strong capabilities across Azure compute, networking, storage, monitoring, budgeting, cost analysis, disaster recovery, DevOps, and security, and can operate independently while providing advanced technical guidance on complex activities.

They excel at formulating and defining system specifications, as well as developing, modifying, and maintaining complex systems and subsystems using vendor engineering releases, updates, and utilities. The ideal candidate applies strong analytical techniques to gather user requirements, define technical and operational challenges, design effective technology solutions, and develop procedures to resolve those challenges.

This individual demonstrates strong problem-solving and evaluation skills, analyzing alternative technical approaches, reviewing and interpreting task requirements, preparing project synopses, and producing detailed specifications. They proactively resolve processing problems, coordinate work with engineers and developers, and provide user orientation on new or updated systems. The ideal candidate confidently makes technical decisions regarding methods, tools, and implementation strategies and prepares clear recommendations for system and process improvements for management consideration.

They bring a high degree of technical acumen, independence, and decision-making ability, ensuring successful development and support of sophisticated cloud and hybrid solutions.

Duties and Responsibilities

Design, develop, and maintain complex software systems within cloud and hybrid environments running on Microsoft Azure.

Implement and manage Azure services including compute, networking, storage, monitoring, security, disaster recovery, and cost optimization.

Conduct cost analysis and budgeting activities to ensure efficient and financially responsible use of Azure resources.

Perform Azure-based DevOps tasks, including automation, CI / CD pipeline development, configuration management, and infrastructure as code (IaC).

Operate independently with minimal guidance while providing expert-level technical assistance and advice on advanced technical challenges.

Formulate and define system specifications, ensuring that technical solutions align with business and operational requirements.

Modify and maintain complex systems and subsystems, leveraging vendor engineering releases, updates, and utilities for optimal system performance.

Gather and analyze requirements by applying analytical techniques to identify user needs, define work problems, and design effective technology solutions.

Develop and document procedures to resolve technical challenges and streamline operational workflows.

Evaluate and analyze approaches for system design, development, and implementation, recommending optimal strategies.

Review task proposals and requirements, gathering and analyzing data to prepare summaries and solution recommendations.

Compare technical alternatives and prepare detailed specifications for proposed system enhancements or new solutions.

Troubleshoot and resolve complex processing problems, ensuring system stability and performance.

Collaborate with programmers, engineers, and cross-functional teams to coordinate solution development and integration.

Provide user orientation and training on newly implemented or modified systems.

Make informed decisions on methods, techniques, and technical approaches used in the development and improvement of systems.

Prepare recommendations for system, process, and performance improvements, presenting findings to management and end users.

Requirements

Qualifications

Bachelors Degree and / or equivalent certifications or military work-related experience

8 years of experience in large enterprise engineering environments, enterprise architecture, technology evaluation / advisory groups

Provide engineering leadership in design and implementation of infrastructure solutions, strategies and technologies

Architect level knowledge and hands-on experience with some combination of storage, compute, cloud, and virtualization technologies

Knowledgeable about federal guidelines for implementing solutions (FISMA, NIST, FEDRAMP, etc)

Knowledgeable about current and possible future IT trends and technology

Possesses strong IT, planning, and financial knowledge and skills to do the job at a high level of accomplishment

Experience with Physical and Virtual Desktop Infrastructure

Experience in Windows, Linux, and Apple environments

Experience with Data Center Operations

Strong written and oral communications, especially in the context of making complex engineering concepts and tasks understandable to non-technical audiences and end customers.

Ability to create and maintain technical documentation.

Experience supporting large-scale enterprise cloud environments.

Background in cloud architecture, systems engineering, or Azure solution design.

Experience developing procedures, SOPs, and technical documentation for cloud operations.

Experience working in environments that use rigorous security, compliance, or government standards.

Familiarity with additional cloud platforms (AWS, Google Cloud) in hybrid or multi-cloud settings.

Experience leading or mentoring technical teams.
