ELA Teacher for Gifted & Twice-Exceptional Middle and High Schoolers
_Specialized in Dyslexia & Dysgraphia In-Person Part-Time _
Do you believe that learning should feel like wonder, not a worksheet?
Are you a seasoned middle-school or high-school ELA teacher who's tired of testing over teaching? Do you light up when a student follows a rabbit trail into unexpected brilliance? Do you believe that learning differences shouldn't define a learner-but deserve to be deeply understood?
If so, Wonder Learning Center might just be your pack.
About the Role :
We're seeking a passionate, highly trained ELA educator who specializes in Dyslexia and Dysgraphia (Orton-Gillingham training / certification required). You'll teach ELA for students in our mixed-age middle and early high school groups. Your students may struggle to write a paragraph, yet be capable of writing a novel-if only given the right tools.
At Wonder, we follow curiosity. We support difference. We chase down "what ifs" and turn them into stories, essays, scripts, and questions that can't be unasked.
Who You Are :
You might be our ideal ELA teacher if you :
Have Orton-Gillingham training or certification (or similar structured literacy background) and 5+ years deep experience supporting students with Dyslexia and Dysgraphia .
Understand and embrace neurodivergence -you don't just accommodate, you celebrate gifted and twice-exceptional learners-especially those with Dyslexia, Dysgraphia, ADHD, ASD, and anxiety.
Are skilled at differentiating instruction and giving students choice in how they access content and demonstrate mastery (Universal Design for Learning mindset).
Are a flexible, adaptive educator comfortable teaching across a broad spectrum of ages (middle school through high school).
Thrive in small-group, multi-age classrooms , and can adjust on the fly to meet a wide range of academic levels and emotional needs.
Are project-based and story-driven in your teaching style, especially thematic or interdisciplinary approaches and you see language arts not as a silo, but as a thread that ties together identity, culture, history, storytelling, and exploration.
You are comfortable creating and crafting curriculum (think : "Banned Books" semester; combining lit with history and writing with theater for a "Beyond Broadway" class). You could even whip up an integrated ELA and Science unit! You aren't afraid to deviate from a traditional text list to follow what lights your students up-and you know how to meet learning goals without extinguishing their spark.
Are relationship-centered in your teaching style and believe that mindfulness , emotional intelligence , and student voice are just as essential as grammar and thesis statements.
Value laughter, curiosity, flexibility, and a good metaphor as much as any standard.
