Medical Assistant Lead (PFT Lab) Brigham and Womens Hospital
Brigham and Womens Hospital is seeking a Medical Assistant Lead to perform clinical duties and lead the MA team. This role supports the Practice Manager and Medical Director to deliver high quality, efficient patient care.
Job Summary
The Medical Assistant Lead serves as the direct supervisor for MA staff, oversees clinical operations, audits quality control programs, and facilitates communication across the site. The role acts as a liaison among clinical staff, the Practice Manager, and physicians, and coordinates new initiatives to enhance operational efficiency.
Essential Functions
- Assist in complex office-based procedures and provide clinical oversight for quality control programs.
- Lead the medical assisting teamtrain, mentor, and provide performance guidance.
- Assign tasks and responsibilities, ensuring proper workload distribution.
- Promote a positive, collaborative team environment for professional growth.
- Coordinate patient flow to deliver timely, efficient care.
- Assist with patient intake: obtain medical history, record vital signs, and prepare patients for examination.
- Participate in the interview process for new MAs and serve as a preceptor for new hires or students; supervise clinic support staff and create coverage schedules.
- Assist with competency assessment of other MAs and provide input on performance evaluations.
Qualifications
Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. No acceptance of experience in lieu of a degree.
Licenses & Credentials: Certified Medical Assistant (various issuers) required; Basic Life Support (BLS) certification preferred.
Experience: 3?5 years as a medical assistant with demonstrated proficiency in clinical and administrative tasks.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Strong leadership and team management skills.
- Comprehensive knowledge of medical terminology, procedures, and protocols.
- Proficiency in electronic health record (EHR) systems and medical office software.
- Able to take vital signs, manual blood pressure, and collect blood samples and other specimens.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Attention to detail and strong organizational abilities.
- Ability to multitask, prioritize, and adapt in a fast?paced healthcare environment.
- Knowledge of HIPAA and other privacy and security regulations.
