Description

The Pre-Operative / PACU Registered Nurse is responsible for the pre-operative and post-operative care of the surgical patients. Essential duties include :

• Ensuring all drugs and equipment is properly prepared for each case.
• Greeting the patient in the pre-op area for the purposes of identification and physical / psychological assessments, as well as to decrease patient anxiety and help plan nursing actions intra-operatively.
• Assisting in the transfer of the patient to the OR table and monitor the patient during the induction of anesthesia.
• Assessing the physical status of the post-op patient through personal observation and interaction.
• Interpreting diagnostic measures and completing patient care documentation.
• Properly identifying, logging, and delivering any specimens.
• Assisting with inter-case clean up and terminal cleaning activities.
