Radiant Horizon Family Services is seeking compassionate, dependable, and dedicated Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) to provide care and support to individuals with developmental disabilities. DSPs play a vital role in helping individuals achieve greater independence, health, safety, and inclusion in their communities. This position requires empathy, patience, and a commitment to treating all people with dignity and respect, while complying with Ohio Department of Developmental Disabilities (DODD) rules, guidelines, and Individual Service Plans (ISPs).
Key Responsibilities
Personal Care & Health Support
- Assist with daily living needs including personal hygiene, grooming, dressing, toileting, and bathing.
- Support mobility and transfers (using gait belts, lifts, wheelchairs, and other adaptive equipment).
- Monitor and document vital signs, health symptoms, and overall wellness.
- Administer medications after successful completion of required training.
- Prepare and serve meals, assist with feeding, and ensure hydration and dietary needs are met.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and healthy environment through light housekeeping and infection control practices.
- Must be comfortable in homes with pets.
Community Integration & Skill Building
Encourage participation in community outings, recreational activities, volunteer opportunities, and events.Provide transportation to medical appointments, day programs, work, and errands as needed.Teach and reinforce independent living skills such as cooking, budgeting, housekeeping, and personal safety.Support clients in achieving personal goals outlined in ISPs and behavior support plans.Behavioral & Emotional Support
Model respectful, patient, and positive interactions at all times.Use approved strategies to support individuals with behavioral or emotional challenges.Provide companionship and encouragement to promote emotional well-being.Foster self-advocacy and support individuals in making daily life choices.Documentation & Compliance
Accurately complete daily progress notes, incident reports, and other documentation in compliance with DODD regulations (including Rule 5123 : 2-17-02).Follow and implement care plans, behavior support strategies, and safety protocols.Immediately report concerns related to health, safety, or welfare according to MUI / UI procedures.Maintain confidentiality and comply with HIPAA standards to protect individual rights and privacy.Qualifications
Required :
High School Diploma or GED.Must be 18 years or older (21+ if transporting clients).Valid Ohio driver’s license, reliable transportation, and acceptable driving record (if driving).Ability to pass : BCII / FBI background checkDrug screeningAbuser Registry and Nurse Aide Registry checksPreferred (but not required) :
Previous experience in caregiving, home health, group homes, assisted living, or long-term care settings.Familiarity with developmental disabilities, autism spectrum disorder, Alzheimer’s / dementia care, and behavioral support.Current CPR / First Aid certification.DODD-approved Medication Administration Certification (Med Certs 1, 2, & 3).Required Training (Provided upon Hire) :
DODD Provider Certification Training (initial and annual).Rights of Individuals with Developmental Disabilities.MUI / UI Awareness and Reporting.Universal Precautions & Infection Control.Person-Centered Planning and Service Delivery.Emergency Response and Evacuation Procedures.Skills & Attributes
