Position Overview
Under supervision, perform mid-level electrical engineering duties within the Regulatory Decision Integration organization, On-site waste disposal facility (OSWDF) and Centralized Wastewater Treatment (CWWT) Projects. The specific work assignments include review of subcontractor design packages as well as generation of electrical design packages for supporting facilities and infrastructure.
Principle Duties
- Prepare engineering documents in accordance with site engineering procedures including but not limited to calculations, engineering evaluations, technical specification, drawings, and quality level determinations.
- Design and develop electrical systems for the OSWDF and CWWT projects.
- Create schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation.
- Collaborate with mechanical and civil engineers to ensure system integration.
- Support the OSWDF and CWWT subcontractor design process :
- Develop and maintain an in-depth understanding of the OSWDF and CWWT subcontract scope and requirements.
- Coordinate with the stakeholders (internal and external) for design inputs, output, reviews, comments, and approvals.
- Review subcontractor submittals to determine compliance with engineering codes, standards, applicable federal / state regulations, contractual requirements, and site-specific requirements.
- Review of engineering calculations and design documents for quality and accuracy.
- Assist with procurement including technical reviews of equipment / material specifications, vendor proposals, source selection and vendor submittal review / acceptance. Approve long-lead procurement technical specifications and coordinate with procurement to ensure equipment is delivered as scheduled and meets the quality inspection criteria.
- Assist in the development of request for proposals (RFP) and technical bid evaluations.
- Establish and maintain an open channel of communications with the other DOE disposal facilities of similar design for the purpose of benchmarking, incorporating lessons learned and feedback.
- Status project schedules and provide input to the detailed weekly progress meetings and reports.
- Identify and evaluate project related issues and problems.
- Participate in design status meetings throughout the design process.
- Support development of operating procedures
- Provide field support during construction, start-up testing troubleshooting, and contract readiness assessments processes.
- Actively participate in Safety Work Groups
Minimum Requirements
BS degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent and 5 years of electrical design experience, preferably with experience in power distribution and programmable logic control (PLC) panels.Ability to interpret pertinent electrical and safety codes, governing regulations, and industry practices.NFPA 70E Certification – Electrical Safety in the Workplace, preferred.Excellent writing and communication skills. Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)Must possess at least a DOE "L" clearance or the ability to obtain a DOE "L" clearance.Working Conditions
