Job Summary
The Programming Coordinator plans and coordinates programming, production, promotions, and events for the KPYT Community Radio Station
Principle Duties and Responsibilities
- Manage and oversee the day-to-day programming, production, promotions, and events of the radio station, including, but not limited to, program development and evaluation, and staff scheduling and training.
- Review and recommend programming policies, procedures, systems and forms designed to improve station programming, production, promotion, and events.
- Participate in the development of station goals, policies, and procedures.
- Analyze the programming needs of the listening public and creates programs to serve needs.
- Responsible for programming music and special programs.
- Coordinate radio promotions and events.
- Schedule radio announcer program slots, promotion and event assignments, and training as needed.
- Responsible for evening and weekend radio station programming and operations.
- Serve as producer / on air radio announcer of various music, news or other information programming as assigned.
- Confer and participate with other departments, organizations, and / or agencies regarding promotions, special programs, events, and fund raising activities.
- Perform other duties of a similar nature or level as requested by supervisor or director.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of :
Radio station operations, broadcast rules and regulations, and guidelines of news reporting;Radio production procedures and techniques;Knowledge of FCC, NPR, CPB and NFCB regulations, guidelines and standards;Yaqui culture, customs, resources and traditions and / or a willingness to learn.Skills and Abilities :
Analyze problems, project consequences, identify solutions, and implement recommendations;Develop and implement fundraising programs and activities;Organize events and promotions;Operate various word-processing, spreadsheets, and database software programs;Work independently and meet strict time lines;Interact and maintain good working relationships with individuals of varying social and cultural backgrounds;Communicate efficiently and effectively both verbally and in writing;Exercise independent judgment;Maintain confidentiality;Operate a variety of office equipment, including a computer and related software applications;Good communication and interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with co-workers, supervisor, management, Council members, and the public. Have ability to sufficiently exchange or convey information and receive verbal and written work instructions.Education, Certifications and Experience Required
Bachelor's Degree in Journalism, Broadcasting, Communications or related field and three (3) years of progressive work experience in radio or broadcasting.
Special Requirements :
Must possess and maintain a valid Arizona Driver's License;This position will require the incumbent to work non-traditional hours, nights, and weekends;Must have a current Level 1 Arizona Clearance Card or be able to obtain the Level 1 Arizona Clearance Card within ninety (90) days of hire.
