American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Pediatric ICU position requiring a CA RN license, BLS and PALS certifications, and recent PICU experience.

\n \n Responsibilities\n

Work in an 8-bed Pediatric Intensive Care Unit within an acute care hospital setting

Manage pediatric patients with diagnoses such as respiratory failure, dehydration, seizures, suicide attempts, overdoses, poisoning, ventilators, and diabetic ketoacidosis

Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1 : 2 with an average census of 2

Night shifts with 12-hour shift length; every other weekend required

Floating required to general pediatrics and burn unit for non-burn pediatric patients, with voluntary floating to the NICU; travelers are first to float

Use Cerner EMR for charting and Spacelab telemetry monitors with nurses reading their own strips

Unit utilizes vents, Cpap, Ramcan, Bipap, and HFNC; RT and pharmacy support available 24 / 7

PICU-floors orientation includes 2 shifts on the PICU, 1 on peds, and 1 on the burn unit for pediatric care

On-call standby may be required if census is low and scheduled

Responsibilities include monitoring, assessment, and management of critically ill pediatric patients with complex conditions and therapies

Must wear navy blue scrubs

Nurses are rarely required to act as charge and there are no nurse aides on the unit

Pediatric hospitalist intensivists are in-house 24 / 7

Holiday coverage required for two out of three major holidays during contract

No IV team; nurses perform their own IV insertions

Candidates may not have been employed by the affiliated health system within the past year unless previously employed through an outside firm

References required : one supervisor from the past year and one peer or supervisor from the past three years, including employment dates and eligibility for rehire

Valid driver’s license required for consideration

Active CA RN license required at time of consideration; pending licenses not accepted

Minimum 2 years of recent Pediatric ICU experience required; 3 years total RN experience preferred

Certifications required : BLS and PALS; must be current and active

Ability to manage ventilators and titrate drips such as insulin, sedative agents, heparin, and electrolyte replacements

Experience using Cerner EMR preferred

Not open to first-time travelers
