We are seeking a board-certified Gastroenterologist for a locum tenens assignment in Virginia. This opportunity begins on Jan 9, 2026, and spans 48 days, providing weekend hospital call coverage from Friday at 5 p.m. to Monday at 7 a.m. The role involves advanced endoscopic procedures and a diverse range of GI interventions. Job Details Location : Virginia Start Date : Jan 9, 2026 LOA : 48 days Provider Type Needed : Gastroenterologist Schedule : Friday 5 p.m. – Monday 7 a.m.; hospital call coverage on weekends Responsibilities and Duties Perform esophageal dilatation and manometry Interpret esophageal manometry studies Conduct small bowel biopsies Perform lower GI endoscopy, sigmoidoscopy, and colonoscopy Conduct liver biopsies Insert and manage Sengstaken / Blakemore tubes Perform endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) Conduct upper GI endoscopy : biopsy, foreign body removal, fulguration of bleeder (cautery or laser), injection and banding of varices, and ERCP (Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangio Pancreatography) Perform diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures, including PEG (Percutaneous Endoscopic Gastrostomy) Additional Information Board certification in Gastroenterology required VA medical license required Flu shot required; COVID vaccine highly preferred Must be available to cover open shifts to be considered Clean malpractice history required for temporary privileges Proficiency in ERCP required; EUS preferred Benefits Strong compensation Travel-related expenses covered A-rated medical malpractice insurance provided Dedicated recruiter for future travel opportunities What are Locum Tenens Jobs?
