FACILITIES TECHNICIAN (INTERNAL RECRUITMENT)
SALARY : $4346 - $5669

SUMMARY : Under general supervision performs journey-level tasks in the repair maintenance and improvement of City facilities including carpentry plumbing mechanical HVAC masonry and electrical work; performs semi-skilled construction maintenance and repair of City streets parks facilities landscape city-wide graffiti abatement irrigation systems trees alleys and traffic signals; operates vehicles equipment heavy equipment and tools in accordance with all quality standards safety regulations and procedures.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential duties and responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following :
- Repairs modifies and maintains City facilities and buildingsand infrastructure; performs construction maintenance and manual labor in the maintenance and repair of City streets parks grounds roadway storm water drainage systems and public areas; makes appropriate decisions based on work experience and training; duties may vary according to job assignment and individual skills.
- Inspects and troubleshoots buildingand other cityinfrastructureproblems and maintenance issues and develops efficient and cost-effective solutions; reads and interprets work orders; identifies material and equipment needs for each assigned project and orders supplies.
- Diagnoses and corrects building and other city infrastructure maintenance problems using knowledge of a wide variety of building and construction trades skills; performs repairs preventive maintenance and component replacement on HVAC plumbing electrical carpentry and mechanical systems street repairs traffic signals irrigation systems and street light infrastructure.
- Performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled building and other city infrastructure maintenance and repair tasks within scope of authority and in accordance with all safety regulations and procedures; notifies supervisors of repair problems beyond the scope of authority : cross-trains in Public Works work procedures and equipment operation.
- Uses various methods to cover and remove graffiti and vandalism on public and private property city-wide; maintains landscaping; installs troubleshoots and maintains irrigation systems; mows and trims lawns and grounds; clears trash brush weeds weeds debris and foliage; removes graffiti; applies herbicides pesticides fertilizers and other chemicals.
- Performs building cleaning and maintenance duties; cleans and repairs public facilities and grounds; performs seasonal roadway maintenance duties; replaces and repairs road signs; paints and maintains street markings and lane controls.
- Operates and maintains a variety of specialized vehicles equipment hand and power tools; assists with maintenance work on tools and equipment; identifies and reports mechanical problems requiring additional repair.
- Repairs and rebuilds building interior structure and components as needed; repairs external structure and components as in the construction maintenance and repair of roadways structures structural components pavement and storm water drainage systems;operates and maintains hand and power tools.
- Utilizes proper safety precautions in all work performed. Reports problems safety hazards traffic problems equipment problems and emergency situations; performs traffic control activities as directed; cleans up spills and unsafe conditions in a timely manner and according to procedures.

- Controls work site to assure that safety rules and regulations are adhered to and that the work zone and all equipment are in safe operating condition.
- Assists with setup and teardown and other tasks for special events as directed.
- Supports the relationship between the City of Rosemead and the constituent population by providing excellent customer service; promotes the City goals and priorities incompliance with all policies and procedures; maintains absolute confidentiality of work-related issues client records and City information; performs related duties as required or assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education Training and Experience Guidelines :
High school diploma or GED equivalent; AND three years work experience at a journeyman level of at least two specialties within the building crafts parks / grounds maintenance infrastructure maintenance / repairs tree trimming irrigation systems welding streetlight maintenance street signage street maintenance and traffic signal maintenance including electrical HVAC plumbing carpentry cement / masonry and asphalt; OR an equivalent combination of education training and experience.
Licenses or Certifications :
Must possess or have the ability to obtain an appropriate California Drivers License and a satisfactory driving record.Completion of City First Aid / CPR training program required within six months of hire.Incumbents may be required to obtain specific technical training and certifications in building tradesirrigation systems welding street maintenance or traffic signal maintenance.Knowledge of :
City policies and procedures.Local state and Federal building codes including California Electric Plumbing and Mechanical Codes and related statutes and regulations.Practices procedures and equipment used in maintenance of public properties.Federal state and City safety rules and regulations occupational hazards and safety precautions.Methods materials tools and equipment used in the maintenance of municipal infrastructure and facilities.Proper use and storage of chemicals including OSHA Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) for hazardous chemicals used in the workplace.Operation repair and maintenance standards for specialized tools equipment and vehicles.City geography traffic patterns streets landmarks and facility locations.Skill in :
Performing a full range of skilled and semi-skilled facilities maintenance work parks / grounds and infrastructure maintenance work.Using experienced repair and maintenance methods on electrical plumbing carpentry HVAC systems irrigation systems and street maintenance.Using initiative and independent judgment within established procedural guidelines.Inspectingcity buildings parks and city infrastructure and assuring they are properly and safely maintained.Reading and interpreting plans schematics and specifications.Promoting and enforcing safe work practices including safe use of chemicals.Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with other team members.Providing effective customer service and dealing tactfully and courteously with the public.Closely following verbal and written instructions and procedures.Communicating effectively verbally and in writing.Physical Demands and Working Environment
Work is performed indoors and outdoors at work sites throughout the city; required to perform skilled technical repair and maintenance work and lift and carry up to 50pounds. Must be able to work extended hours weekends and holidays as needed and respond to emergency callouts. May be required to travel to various sites locations and / or events.Team members are required to be in attendance and prepared to begin work at their assigned work location on the specified days and hours; team members are required to assume duties of a disaster worker in the event of a locally declared emergency.IMPORTANT NOTICE
