Engineering Manager
The City of Norfolk's Department of Utilities is seeking a dynamic and professional Engineering Manager to lead the Engineering and Technology Division. The Division is staffed with 49 engineers, engineering technicians, construction inspectors, programmer analysts, and support staff who provide engineering and technology support. The Department of Utilities operates over 135 wastewater pump stations, 700 miles of gravity sewers and force mains, over 900 miles of water pipelines, two water treatment plants, associated raw water pumping facilities, and eight reservoirs.
Essential functions include managing a $90 million annual Capital Improvement Program for water and sanitary sewer improvements from project planning through design and construction. The position also provides engineering expertise and technology support to the operational divisions. Additional responsibilities include representing the Department of Utilities to other City Departments, private utilities, state regulatory agencies, and local governments.
The Engineering Manager :
Education / Experience : Work requires specialized knowledge in a professional or technical field. Work requires a professional level of knowledge of a discipline equivalent to that which is acquired in a Master's degree-level of study. Ten years experience in Civil Engineering or Utilities. The desired candidate will possess the following : Degree in Civil Engineering (Master's degree desirable), Experience in supervising engineers, engineering technicians, field inspectors, and programmer analysts, Experience with state and municipal government contracting requirements.

This position is designated as an essential position which means you may be required to work rotating, extended, after hours, nights and / or weekends in response to emergencies and severe weather events.
