• December 2025 and May 2026 graduates will be considered for the Transportation Engineer I level.

NDDOT Starting Salary :

Transportation Engineer II : $5999 / month

Transportation Engineer I : $5403 / month

At the North Dakota Department of Transportation we owe our success to our people and processes. As a Transportation Engineer in our Devils Lake District you will manage small and medium construction projects and be the main inspector on large projects. The ideal person for this position will be a problem solver with excellent communication skills and attention to detail.

You will manage construction projects monitor contractor operations and assure project is built according to the plans and specs. You will also be responsible for designing projects and preparing plan documents for district designed projects.

Other duties include large project inspection filling in for project engineer in their absence preliminary surveys bridge deck evaluations construction survey and materials testing as well as other miscellaneous job duties.

Minimum Qualifications

To be considered as a Transportation Engineer II you must have a bachelors degree in engineering or closely related field and two years of professional-level engineering work addition you must have passed or have the ability to pass the Fundamentals of Engineering exam as specified by the Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors.

To be considered as a Transportation Engineer I you must have a bachelors degree in engineering or closely related field.

This position requires a class D drivers license for travel to various projects and required trainings.

Employment of the selected candidate will be contingent on satisfactorily completing the interview process and reference check.
