JOB DESCRIPTION :
General Statement of Duties : Transports participants, early childhood through older adults, in Willamalane and other community programs; may assist in leading the planned activities along with the trip leader, if accompanied by trip leader; may assist in the supervision of program participants; ensures safety of children who are participating in the program; does related work as required.
Distinguishing Features of the Class : An employee in this classification is responsible for safely transporting participants in Willamalane and other community programs. Work is performed under the general supervision of a Recreation Supervisor, with occasional audits and observations scheduled to evaluate training needs. Supervision of employees is not a responsibility of positions in this classification. Recreation supervisor or program leader will provide information regarding schedule and site changes.
Examples Of Essential Duties Performed : (Illustrative only. Any single position of a class will not necessarily involve all of the duties listed, and many positions will involve duties that are not listed.)
Provides safe transportation for Willamalane participants to a variety of locations within various programs, which includes assisting in the safe boarding and unloading of passengers.
Performs pre-trip safety inspection of vehicle.
Carries out work arrangements related to duties, times, and locations of trips as planned by Supervisor or Programmer, which includes dispensing fuel in vehicle and reporting any mechanical problems.
Operates Willamalane vehicle in a safe and defensive manner. Responsible for the safety of participants while trip is underway.
Conducts oneself in a pleasant and positive manner with participants and the public.
May assist in leading the planned activities of the trip along with the trip leader / escort; may assist in the supervision of program participants.
Attendance at Willamalanes Defensive Driving Training, vehicle orientation and other on-going trainings and meetings as required by the District.
Responsible for maintaining the interior condition of the vehicle on a daily basis.
Performs other job-related duties or tasks as required.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS :
Knowledge :
Defensive driving techniques

Rules of the road
Municipal, state, and federal highway laws
Knowledge of immediate geographic area
Skills : The administration of basic first aid and CPR.
Abilities : Operate vehicles, including 14 passenger vehicles, in a safe manner; communicate effectively and cooperatively with staff and program participants; work with a minimum of supervision using good judgment, resourcefulness, and initiative in carrying out duties.
Experience And Training : Valid Oregon drivers license (Class C), and at least one year of driving experience.
Physical Demands of the Position : While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand, and bend, often in conjunction with reaching for and manipulating objects. Manual dexterity and coordination are required during a majority of the work period while operating equipment such as commercial / school bus, vans and activity buses. Position requires intense concentration and good sensory perception, namely sight and hearing, especially in poor driving conditions. Employee may be exposed to especially cold or hot temperatures depending on the weather. Exposure to loud noise is moderate but never necessitates use of hearing protection. Employee may not have an impairment that prevents or severely interferes with safe driving. Persons with disabilities may be able to perform the essential duties of this class with reasonable accommodation. Reasonable accommodation will be evaluated on an individual basis and depends, in part, on the specific requirements for the job, the limitations related to the disability and the ability of the hiring department to accommodate the limitation.
Personal Protective Equipment : Nitrile gloves for the administration of first aid. Van / bus should have first aid kit with additional PPE such as a one-way valve for CPR, safety glasses.
Necessary Special Requirements : Possession of current first aid and CPR certificates; must hold a current unrestricted Oregon drivers license (Class C). Safe driving record. Because this job is considered safety sensitive, a drug screen test will be required prior to employment.
Optional Special Requirements : Oregon commercial drivers license (Class B Commercial or Class C Commercial, as appropriate for vehicle operated) with passenger endorsements.
Necessary Special Requirements : Valid unrestricted drivers license (Class C); safe driving record; possession of or ability to obtain current First Aid and CPR / AED certification. Must be 18 years old to operate necessary equipment. Because this job is considered safety sensitive, a drug screen test will be required prior to employment.

Hours vary up to 19.75 hours / week. Hours and shifts vary but are mostly weekends
