Major Duties
Under general supervision, the Equipment Technician performs skilled repairs, regular maintenance, and troubleshooting of laboratory equipment, including hydraulic testing rigs, mechanical apparatus, and electromechanical instructional tools. Design and fabricate specialized instructional components and aids using diverse materials such as wood, metal, plastic, and composites. Provide hands-on technical support, guidance, and training to faculty and students to ensure effective use and understanding of lab equipment and safety procedures. Prepare laboratory setups for instructional sessions and assist students with material selection and fabrication processes. Oversee the management of lab equipment inventories, including ordering supplies, maintaining consumable stocks, organizing tools, and ensuring the operational readiness of laboratories in compliance with safety standards.
- Designs and fabricates mechanical and electromechanical components for use in instructional labs, classroom demonstrations, and student or faculty projects.
- Performs skilled maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of laboratory equipment and systems.
- Provides technical support and guidance to faculty and students in the use of laboratory tools, machines, and test equipment.
- Manages lab equipment inventories and operational readiness.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Equivalent to two years of full-time journey-level or skilled experience in the maintenance, repair, and operation of industrial or technical equipment.Substitutions may be made for up to two years of the required experience.Valid California Driver’s License preferred.Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Demonstrated ability to design and fabricate mechanical and electromechanical components using diverse materials, such as wood, metal, plastic, and composites, utilizing fabrication techniques including machining, welding, cutting, and basic assembly.Proficient in interpreting verbal instructions and sketches into functional, practical components, with familiarity in CAD and CAM software preferred for generating construction drawings or design refinements.Skilled in diagnosing, troubleshooting, and repairing laboratory equipment, including hydraulic testing rigs, mechanical apparatus, and electromechanical instructional tools.Ability to effectively maintain preventive maintenance schedules, perform part replacements and adjustments, and consistently adhere to safety protocols across multiple laboratory environments.Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule

The salary range for this classification is : $4595- $6694 per month.HOURS : Full Time; 40 hours per week; Monday through Friday.This is a Regular position with a one-year probationary period.The position is currently hybrid (4 days in office, 1 day remote); however, this is subject to change based on student and / or operational needs.
