Emergency Veterinarian

24-hour specialty and emergency hospital in Berkeley, California is hiring an Emergency Veterinarian.

This is a full emergency role in a well-established referral center that has been serving the Bay Area since 1979, staffed around the clock by an internship-trained ER team. The hospital runs two buildings with three surgical suites, a GE Optima CT540 scanner, full in-house lab, digital radiology, and 13 exam rooms.

The emergency department operates 24/7 and is supported by board-certified specialists in surgery, oncology, radiology, ophthalmology, exotic animal care, and internal medicine, plus call-in endoscopy through a boarded internist. When you need a specialist consult or to escalate a case, the infrastructure is there.

The ER team is experienced and internship-trained. This is not a department built around new graduates figuring it out together. Scheduling is built with shift sustainability in mind, 12 shifts per month with time-off requests taken seriously. The nursing staff is skilled and consistent, which makes a real difference on difficult shifts.

About You

• Hold a DVM degree with internship training or meaningful emergency clinical experience
• Can hold your own in a high-acuity environment without constant supervision
• Comfortable working across departments and communicating with specialists
• Can obtain a California veterinary license
• Looking for a sustainable ER position, not just a short-term placement
