POSITION OVERVIEW :

Mercer County is seeking a full-time Principal Traffic

Engineer to lead complex traffic engineering and roadway safety projects that

impact daily travel throughout the region. This transportation engineering role

is responsible for planning, designing, and implementing traffic control

systems that support public safety, mobility, and road infrastructure

improvements.

The successful Principal Traffic Engineer will apply traffic

studies, roadway design, and safety analysis to implement data-driven

transportation solutions. This position offers a flexible hybrid schedule and

the opportunity to work on projects that make a real impact on the quality of

life in Mercer County.

REQUIREMENTS OF THE

PRINCIPAL TRAFFIC ENGINEER :

The Principal Traffic Engineer must possess a bachelor's

degree in Engineering from an accredited college or university.

A valid Professional Engineer (PE) license issued by the NJ

State Board of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors may substitute for the

degree requirement.

The Principal Traffic Engineer must have a valid New Jersey

Driver's License.

The Principal Traffic Engineer must have a minimum of three

(3) years of experience in traffic engineering, including traffic design,

transportation analysis, and roadway systems.

A master's degree in Engineering may substitute for one year

of required experience.

RESPONSIBILITIES OF

THE PRINCIPAL TRAFFIC ENGINEER :

The Principal Traffic Engineer will conduct and manage

traffic engineering studies, including data collection and traffic pattern

analysis.

The Principal Traffic Engineer will design and implement

traffic control systems such as signals, signs, and pavement markings.

The Principal Traffic Engineer will develop roadway safety

solutions to improve mobility and reduce traffic accidents.

The Principal Traffic Engineer will collaborate with

municipal, county, and state agencies to resolve regional traffic and

transportation issues.

The Principal Traffic Engineer will lead field

investigations, supervise project implementation, and evaluate system

effectiveness.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS,

ABILITIES :

In-depth knowledge of transportation engineering, roadway

design, and traffic operations.

Proficiency in traffic modeling tools, transportation data

analysis, and engineering software.

• Strong leadership and project management skills.

Excellent communication skills to explain technical concepts

and present findings.

through transportation engineering.
