Position Purpose :

The barback ensures that the bartender has everything they need to run a successful and efficient service : clean glassware, prepared garnishes, well stocked liquor, beer, spirits, ice cubes, napkins, straws etc. They are also responsible for keeping the service area tidy (cleaning up spills and broken glass) and running to the walk-in to restock whatever’s running low.

While barbacks do not typically make drinks or take orders from guests, they have to practice many of the same skills that a bartender has : efficiency, organization, the ability to multitask, and keen intuition. Strong menu knowledge on both food and beverage is needed.
