JOB FUNCTION SUMMARY :
The Data Architect plays a strategic and technical leadership role in designing, optimizing, and governing the data architecture that supports Human Resources business intelligence and analytics.
This position sits in HRIS, and is responsible for developing scalable data models, designing robust integration patterns, improving data quality, and ensuring system-to-system interoperability across the BI ecosystem.
The Data Architect partners closely with HR, analytics, and business stakeholders to build a modern, reliable, and well-documented data architecture that supports operational reporting, analytics, and data-driven decision-making.
This position will work primarily with Employee based data.
GENERIC SCOPE :
Lead the design and evolution of the HR data architecture supporting HR Business Intelligence, Data Integrations between HR Systems, and BI tools like Tableau and Power BI.
Develop scalable data models (conceptual, logical, physical) aligned with business needs.
Oversee data integration frameworks, ETL / ELT pipelines, and interface standards.
Evaluate and improve data quality, consistency, master data management, and metadata stewardship.
Establish best practices for data governance, documentation, change management, and system optimization.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
1.
Data Architecture & Modeling
Design, document, and maintain conceptual, logical, and physical data models.
Develop data structures that support analytics, dashboards, operational reporting, and advanced BI use cases and / or data integrations / interfaces.
Optimize existing data models to improve performance, scalability, and data integrity.
Simplify complex data domains into well-defined models aligned to business processes.

Data Integration & Pipeline Architecture
Architect data integration patterns (batch, streaming, API-based, message-driven) to support enterprise BI needs.
Define standards for ETL / ELT development, data staging, transformation logic, and load performance.
Oversee system-to-system interoperability and ensure consistent handling of master data and reference data.
Evaluate existing interfaces and recommend modern integration best practices.

Data Quality & Governance
Implement data quality frameworks, validation rules, and error-handling patterns.
Partner with data governance teams to define data definitions, lineage, and stewardship models.
Establish standards for metadata management, naming conventions, versioning, and data documentation.

BI Platform Architecture & Optimization
Support architecture decisions related to data warehouses, data lakes, semantic layers, and reporting repositories.
Optimize BI performance through indexing, partitioning, caching, and model tuning.
Collaborate with BI developers to ensure efficient, performant reporting and dashboarding.
Provide architecture guidance for new BI tools, technologies, and platform enhancements.

Solution Design & Technical Leadership
Lead technical discovery, current-state assessments, and future-state architecture planning.
Translate business requirements into well-architected data solutions.
Review and approve data design for new initiatives, enhancements, and integrations.
Provide guidance, mentorship, and architectural oversight to data engineers and BI developers.

Documentation & Knowledge Transfer
Develop and maintain architecture diagrams, system flows, interface maps, and technical standards.
Document dependencies, data lineage, and operational workflows for key data assets.
Provide training and knowledge transfer to data engineering, BI, and analyst teams.
Support the creation of long-term BI roadmap plans and architectural frameworks.
Required Qualifications
Technical Expertise
7+ years of experience working with Microsoft SQL Server in an enterprise data warehouse environment, including advanced proficiency with :
oT-SQL scripting
oStored procedures, functions, and views
oQuery optimization and performance tuning
oIndexing, partitioning, and execution plan analysis
oSQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) or similar ETL tools
Demonstrated ability to design, maintain, and optimize data warehouses and BI-oriented data models in SQL Server.
Strong proficiency designing conceptual, logical, and physical data models for analytical use cases.
Experience architecting and supporting ETL / ELT pipelines feeding SQL Server environments.
Deep understanding of data integration patterns (batch, delta, API, and event-driven).
Hands-on experience with data governance, master data, metadata management, and data quality frameworks.
Experience with BI tools (Tableau, Power BI, or similar) and the underlying data structures they rely on
Education
Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Engineering, or a related technical field; OR equivalent combination of education and extensive professional experience in data architecture, data engineering, or business intelligence.
