THIS IS A GRANT-FUNDED POSITION
JOB SUMMARY/ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: The Research Technician 3 establishes and maintains mouse colonies for a project designed to delineate immune responses to fungal infection of the female reproductive tract. This position performs work supporting in vivo studies.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Establishes and maintains mouse breeding colonies for conditional knockout in vivo studies.
- Maintains accurate records for breeding cycles and performs mouse genotyping.
- Communicates and responds with Laboratory Animal Care Unit regarding animal inquiries and cage needs.
- Assists with in vivo studies, including intravenous injection, intraperitoneal injection, intravaginal inoculation, vaginal lavage, tissue collection, anesthesia administration, and animal imaging.
- Performs independently routine downstream analyses for in vivo studies (e.g., microbiological plating, ELISA, etc.)
- Prepares research reports, graphs, and basic models to communicate findings with the PI.
- Assists in maintaining fungal and bacterial strain database.
- Assists with maintaining accurate safety records and institutional compliance.
- Ensures proper or special rodent diet or drinking water for individualized studies as necessary.
- Troubleshoots experimental data and techniques as needed.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
EDUCATION: Bachelor’s Degree in Microbiology, Biology, Biochemistry, Immunology, or a related field.This position requires the willingness and ability to work with rodents. (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED)
EXPERIENCE: One (1) year of research experience. (OR a combination of related college coursework and related experience to equal five (5) years OR a Master’s degree will be accepted in lieu of work experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Knowledge and ability in mouse colony maintenance, including breeding schemas and genotypic analyses of conditional knockout mice (i.e., Cre/floxed mice).
- Skill in routine data management and knowledge of Microsoft Office software including Word, Excel, PowerPoint
- Ability to communicate in both written and verbal form with the PI and LACU personnel.
- Knowledge of general microbiology.
WORK SCHEDULE: This position may occasionally be required to work weekends.
