Overview
The Mechanical Engineer II or III - will work with assigned engineering teams to support the design and analysis of either
Aircraft modifications and upgrades.
- Ground vehicle and / or CONEX shelters.
Responsibilities
Support the development of new design concepts utilizing information from customer requirements, existing drawings, and on-site surveys as a team member or as mechanical lead.Use of mock-ups and / or 3D printed parts on bench top or on platform to verify fit or other functional requirements prior to committing to a final design.Convert design concepts and requirements into detailed designs for assemblies, sub-assemblies, and the supporting piece parts using 3D CAD software.Familiar with interpretation and utilization of GD&T (AMSE 14.5).Support modification development programs from initial site surveys, through design / analysis, manufacturing and integration support, to project completion.Prepares, reviews, and evaluates documentation, specifications, test plans and procedures.Experienced with the development of briefing material for design review milestones (SRR, PDR, CDR) and supporting presentations to the customer.Possesses knowledge of industry practices, standards, and technology in the aviation or ground systems arena.Assists in definition, trade-off, and design activity. Reviews, evaluates, and analyzes design interfaces.Develop or support the development of engineering reports such as Weight and Balance Reports using calculated and / or actual weight data covering new installs as well as removed systems / components.Works under general supervision, follows established procedures, and solves routine problems in the engineering discipline.Review / approved work products developed by other engineers such as engineering drawings and technical reports.May provide daily supervision and direction to supporting engineers and drafting personnel on associated programs.Performs other duties as assignedDesired Functions :
Perform detailed structural analysis using Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and hand calculation methods.Compose results into analysis reports for airworthiness review.Qualifications

Education :
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering required.Master's Degree in Engineering preferred.Experience :
Years' ExperienceSix years required for BS level.
Four years required for MS level.Minimum of two years experience required in military and / or civil aviation supporting the design of system upgrades for aircraft.Technical ExperienceEssential
Experience with 3D CAD packages required (SolidWorks desired)DesiredExperience with Finite Element Analysis Software (ANSYS preferred)Understanding of basic hand calculations from industry standard references (Bruhn, Niu, Shigley, Roark, etc. preferred. Solid understanding of mechanics of materials and machine design coursework accepted)Experience with design using composite materials desired
