Our client is seeking an experienced General Superintendent to lead field operations for our underground utility construction division. This high-impact leadership role is responsible for overseeing multiple complex projects, ensuring safety, schedule, quality, and budget performance, while fostering a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.

- Lead and develop a small three-person estimating team, continuing best-practice implementation and standardized procedures within the HCSS HeavyBid estimating software.
- Be an integral part of a small four-person Executive Leadership Team, driving company growth and long-term strategy.
Key Responsibilities
1. Operational Leadership & Project Execution
• Lead field operations for multiple utility infrastructure projects.
• Develop and manage integrated project schedules and 4-week/3-month lookaheads.
• Ensure full compliance with project specifications, safety standards, and client expectations.
• Coordinate resources, including labor, equipment, materials, and subcontractors.
2. Team Management & Mentorship
• Supervise Superintendents and Foremen; promote professional development and accountability.
• Conduct performance reviews and provide ongoing coaching and support.
• Uphold high standards in safety, productivity, and workmanship.
3. Quality Assurance & Safety Enforcement
• Enforce project-specific QA/QC standards (compaction, pressure testing, etc.).
• Lead site inspections and proactively address hazards and deficiencies.
• Promote a proactive, blame-free safety culture; uphold L&T’s stop work authority.
4. Stakeholder Communication & Reporting
• Deliver regular progress updates to executive leadership and clients.
• Maintain clear communication with internal departments (PMs, Estimating, Safety).
• Serve as a liaison with utility owners, inspectors, and local agencies.
5. Documentation & Technology
• Ensure accuracy of field reports, daily logs, safety records, and project documentation using HCSS HeavyJob and related systems.
• Support the use and maintenance of advanced construction equipment and technology (directional drills, GPS, etc.).
Requirements
Knowledge & Experience:
• Extensive underground utility construction experience, including trenching, shoring, boring, conduit installation, and backfill.
• Proficient in reading complex civil and utility drawings.
• Deep knowledge of OSHA/Cal-OSHA safety regulations and local permitting.
• Familiar with construction technology platforms (HCSS, Procore, Bluebeam, scheduling tools).
Skills & Abilities:
• Strong leadership, mentorship, and team-building skills.
• Proven track record in delivering projects on time, within budget, and to spec.
• Excellent problem-solving, communication, and decision-making capabilities.
• Ability to manage multiple sites and teams in a fast-paced environment.
• OSHA 30 required; additional certifications a plus.
Physical Requirements:
• Frequent site presence required; must be able to navigate construction environments and travel between job sites as needed.
