Description
American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Med/Surg position requiring Level 1 trauma experience, Cerner proficiency, and night shift availability in an acute care hospital setting.
Details
- Acute care hospital setting on a 22-bed private room Med/Surg unit (4W)
- Patient population includes post-op, sepsis, pneumonia, COPD, diabetes, and infectious disease cases
- Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:4-5
- Heparin drips are titrated on this unit; no cardiac drips
- No telemetry on the unit, though telemetry experience is preferred due to float potential
- RT is assigned directly to the unit; nurses are not expected to manage respiratory equipment independently
- No PCTs on the unit; a resource RN is utilized in addition to the charge RN
- Charge RN is out of the count; house supervisor available 24/7; manager available Mon–Fri
- Charting system: Cerner
- 12-hour night shifts
- 4 weekend shifts (Sat/Sun) required per 4-week scheduling period
- Self-scheduling is done 4 weeks at a time
- Holiday coverage required based on unit needs
- No on-call or standby requirement
- Travelers are first to float to other Med/Surg/Tele units within the hospital
Requirements
- Active AZ RN license or Compact (NLC) license required; must be active at time of consideration — pending licenses not accepted
- BLS certification required; must be active — pending certifications not accepted
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- Recent Med/Surg experience required
- Level 1 trauma experience required
- Telemetry experience preferred, as floating to tele units is possible
- Charge nurse experience preferred
- Cerner EMR experience
- A valid driver's license is required for consideration
- 2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months, and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years — both must include dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
- Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility (verified by driver's license)
- First-time travelers will not be considered for this position
Additional Information
- Provide acute care nursing to Med/Surg patients including post-op recovery, sepsis, respiratory, and metabolic conditions
- Candidates must pass the Relias Dysrhythmia (DYS) exam prior to offer acceptance; two attempts are allowed
- On Day 1 of orientation, nurses must pass a pass/fail sterile technique competency exam covering Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes — failing the second attempt may result in ineligibility for future consideration
- All RNs will complete a SIMs Lab assessment covering Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes; SIMs Lab is pass/fail and nurses have been released during this process for breaking sterile field
- Orientation also includes education on lifts, restraints, and wound care
- 2 preceptored orientation shifts are provided on the unit
- This is a newer unit still developing its processes and team culture; some flexibility and adaptability is expected
- Navy blue scrubs are required
- Natural hair color is required; facial piercings are not permitted
- Men must be clean-shaven (for respirator fit testing)
- Candidates may not have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity facility within the past year; candidates employed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered
