Work Hours : Monday - Friday, 7 : 00 A.M. - 3 : 30 P.M. (EST)

CLASSIFICATION SUMMARY :

Incumbents in this classification are responsible for assisting experienced mechanics in

performing skilled-level plant maintenance activities related to monitoring mechanical

systems to ensure proper operations. This is an entry-level position focused on on-the-

job training and classroom instruction to develop technical skills. Apprentices work

under moderate supervision as part of a team to learn the methods, tools, and materials

used in trade.

SERIES LEVEL : The Maintenance Apprentice is the first level of a five- level wastewater plant maintenance series.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :

This is a career ladder position. This position will receive an automatic progression to Industrial Maintenance Mechanic 1 when the incumbent has achieved the required minimum qualifications and licenses / certifications for the next position in the series.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS :

Positions in this class typically require : climbing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions.

WORK ENVIRONMENT :

Heavy Work : Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and / or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and / or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, electrical currents, vibrations, fumes, odors, dusts, gasses, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, work space restrictions, infectious diseases, heights, and confined spaces.
