The Clinical Liaison serves as the primary clinical and referral-facing representative for the facility. This role is responsible for conducting clinical assessments of potential admissions, developing and maintaining referral relationships, and acting as a key liaison between Nexus facility leadership, referral sources, patients, and families.
The position blends clinical expertise, relationship management, and strategic census development to support appropriate admissions and sustainable referral growth across Nexus Health Systems.
Develop and implement quarterly, 90-day, and annual referral development plans aligned with budgeted census, patient mix, and payor mix.
Achieve established quarterly referral and admission goals.
Build and maintain strong professional relationships with hospitals, case managers, social workers, physicians, and community partners to generate repeat referrals.
Conduct routine outreach and sales calls to existing and prospective referral sources; accurately document activity in the CRM (MarketWare).
Conduct presentations, clinical discussions, and facility tours for referral sources and families.
Attend conferences, professional seminars, and community events as requested to promote Nexus programs.
Perform periodic competitive market analysis to stay current on local healthcare trends and competitor offerings.
Perform timely and thorough clinical assessments to determine appropriateness for admission in accordance with Nexus admission criteria.
Collaborate closely with admissions, nursing, medical, and clinical leadership to coordinate referrals, evaluations, and placements.
Maintain working knowledge of Nexus programs, licensing regulations, and third-party payor requirements.
Serve as a clinical resource to referral partners regarding program capabilities and appropriate patient placement.
Identify opportunities to package and promote diagnosis-specific or program-specific services in collaboration with clinical, nursing, and medical leadership.
Adhere to all Stark Law, Anti-Kickback Statute, and Nexus compliance requirements.
Track and report non-monetary physician marketing items in accordance with policy.
Maintain accurate and timely calendars, contact reports, and CRM documentation.
Provide regular updates to the CEO and Marketing Director regarding referral activity, census trends, barriers, and opportunities.
Collaborate closely with the facility Marketing Director on ride-alongs, training, and census-building initiatives.
Manage marketing activities and expenses cost-effectively and in compliance with company policy.
Assist with scheduling, coordinating, and promoting educational and CEU events for referral partners.
Collaborate with Nexus marketing representatives on CEU presentations and integrated outreach efforts.
Provide administrative and logistical support for approved education initiatives as assigned.
Bachelor’s degree required
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Nursing or Social Work preferred
Active, unrestricted RN, LMSW, or LCSW license
Minimum 2 years of clinical experience in behavioral health, medical, rehabilitation, or related healthcare settings
At least 1–2 years of experience in admissions, referral development, case management, or healthcare liaison work
Strong understanding of clinical admission criteria and continuum-of-care placement
Experience working with managed care and payor authorization processes preferred
Knowledge of healthcare compliance, referral ethics, and relationship-based outreach
